Bought one on thursday, fantastic purchase at half the price of the ipad.
 
The only problem with the Kindle Fire is that it has a locked UI and is very much geared towards consuming Amazon content, if you are ok with that then it does look like a good piece of kit. Alternatively, they are releasing some new Nexus models soon, which will allow a lot more configuration than the Kindle Fire. There will be 32gb nexus 7 and another one with 3g, there is also rumours of a Nexus 10 which will be similar to the Ipad.
 
Can somebody explain what these things do other than allow you to read books? Not trying to be a smart arse, I was thinking about getting one for the wife.

Internet access, like a big Iphone, you can link it up via wifi

Cheers mate, don't think I'll bother. She's already got a phone, just likes to read on the way to and from work.
