You have to be careful as a parent. I if anything have been over protective of my three lads, which brings its own problems.

Almost 58 years ago, this happened to me and my friend. We were six yrs old and ventured onto the iced over Rochdale Canal, behind Flash St/Poplar St, Newton Heath. And we fell through the ice. We lived on Averill Street at the time. We were rescued by two local me, one of whom couldn’t swim. I searched for these men years later, but to no avail. Here is the report from the Evening News. I’m the cute one on the right of the photo. RIP those poor children

Ditto mate, happening to me and a side kick circa 1968 on Wardle moor.
