Knowing Where Your Kids Are...

Kids will always be kids and that involves taking risks and pushing boundaries, usually that often can result in them doing dangerous things or going to places adults tell them not to. Very sad this while episode my heart goes out to all involved. Sadly just like the number of deaths in hot weather from teenagers swimming in lakes etcetera,in spite of countless warnings not to,it won't be the last.

As your aware my friend painswick park has the boating lake I along with others walked on it in the ice regularly in winter you do not realise the dangers at a young age, the 10 year old who died jumped in to try and help his friends it’s heartbreaking

Yes awful. We discuss these things with the rational and mindset of an adult while often forgetting the mind of a child is very different.

As tragic as it is kids will be kids, I remember when I was about 14 3 of us went into tatton par( 1975 ) there was no-one there I mean no-one and the lake around the boat house ( now gone ) was frozen over we played football on the frozen lake for ages no giving any care to our safety, kids should not be wrapped in cotton wool accidents happen tragically, my heart goes put to the parents.

Horrific story. Could easily have been me as a kid though as going on icy ponds was definitely something that I did with my mates. I think back and shudder at some of the risks I took. My parents didn’t have a clue where I was or what I was up to and as long as I was home for my tea and home by a given time that was the only rule really. Poor kids and their parents. Awful.

I grew up next to Stamford Park boating lake and spent hours on long ice slides that we created and seeing who could slide the longest.
Nobody said it was dangerous, no-one stopped us. I suppose I'm lucky the ice wasn't thinner.

Growing up we would swim at the local lock, we'd swim against the current and get in behind the waterfall the gates made. Then we'd dive in the really deep pool when the big gate was closed, crazy looking back

In the early 80s there was a Mini driver who'd drive on Chadwick dam when it was frozen. He did it for at least 3 winters. Mind you, the ice was at least 5" thick back then.
