Kodi (Bluemoon Build)

Apologies Waspish - didn't get chance to reply.
I grabbed the new Chromecast in the end - just needed a quick fix to make a non smart set into a smart one.
For £25 it works an absolute treat (seamless HD even on WiFi rather than Ethernet).
We've all got devices in the house so easy enough to cast.
Apparently there is a way to pop kodi/access kodi on it...so I'll dive in and take a look.

Cheers.

I have both.
The Amazon Firestick wipes the floor with the Chromecast.
The Firestick is self contained and once loaded with bluemoon Kodi it is bloody marvellous. I've got all the catch up services installed. No need for a Lappy or phone to cast from unlike the Chromecast.
Never use the Chromecast now, it's on the back bedroom tv.

Chromecast is shite - requires another device to control it and you can't install Kodi on it (you can only cast Kodi to it from a laptop/tablet). It doesn't even come with a remote, because (you've guessed it) you control it via another device.
You can screen mirror (cast) to a firestick and add other useful apps like ES File Manager which you can use for web browsing and updating Kodi versions/installing new stuff without a laptop or PC.
Why anyone would purchase a chromecast is beyond me?

(I bought one before I took @aguerrrroooooooooooo 's sound advice and purchased a firestick and then a fire TV box) ;)

Yup I highly recommend the fire TV 4k box, good amount of power for a reasonable price. If you want to go overkill get yourself a shield TV; very expensive though

I've been using Kodi on my RPi 3 for the last few weeks but I've had to add everything off your build manually.
I've got every retro game system on it as well, with almost every game ever released globally for them, from Atari to PS1 generation and every console in-between. All on a box no bigger than a cigarette packet! I've even figured out how to map my PS4 dual shock controllers to it which has enabled me to do away with the retro (SNES) wired usb controllers which are often used on the retro emulators.

That's really cool man, pi 3 is a great device

It runs Kodi as an OS which is why the build doesn't seem to work well with it

OK first thanks to @aguerooooo and all others who contributed to this. Great work much appreciated. I am about to take the plunge but first have a couple of questions.
I tried running Chromecast from a laptop and a tablet but it's just a pain in the arse. Never managed to watch anything without constant hanging and buffering. Probably mainly due to shite wifi. Is the Stick more powerful in terms of wifi streaming or is it just worth paying the extra for the Amazon 4k Box? I only want it for the Bluemoon Build for footie etc.

Does the 4K Box's cable just plug into the hdmi slot on the tv?

Been reading a few forums and apparently you can't buy Amazon TV Stick or Box in Spain yet? There is some opinion that it wouldn't work here if you buy it in the UK. I suppose that means Netflix wouldn't/may not work. I can get one sent over from UK but want to check once you get the Amazon box fired up and connected to internet there's nothing to stop it working, is there? Or do you have to get started through an Amazon UK account?
tia, Cheers

The fire TV 4k is definitely a better device than the stick, you can use Ethernet which can result in better and more reliable streaming then Wi-Fi; it also has a HDMI slot like a sky box or a PlayStation as well which will plug into your TV

Do you live in Spain then mate? I can't be certain if it would work in Spain to be honest; talkativesprout is the guy to ask when it comes to hardware issues buddy :)

Is there a way of playing Kodi on a USB stick on a smart TV please?
Seen a couple of videos on YouTube 1 misses important bits out and the other needs to join a site
Thanks
No it's not possible mate; you can try it on your laptop though and plug that in through the HDMI input though :)
