Kompany, who signed from Hamburg last week, thoroughly enjoyed his debut and told Sky Sports 1: “I just loved it. I enjoyed it 100% - lots of duels, lots of energy.
“I’ve got to be honest, I signed two days ago, trained once and today I played and didn’t know their names.
“During the game I learned their names, learned how everyone plays.
“It was a lot of fun. I wanted to play an intelligent game and try to do my best for the team.â€
The versatile Belgium international began the match in midfield but dropped back to centre-half when Richards went off.
“I loved it in midfield but a job had to be done in defence,†Kompany added.
“That’s why the trainer (manager Mark Hughes) took me, because he can count on me in different positions.

Kompany played Center Back for Hamburg. De Jong was their DMF.

Upson, and no i don't think we should sign him but he fits the exact criteria you've listed. Players should be judged on their ability both to fit into your team and as an individual, not whether other managers have deemed them good enough to play for their team (in this case England) or what league they're playing in.

do i have to list the reasons?! Already knows what to expect, has battled before away to Wigan on a gail force November evening, knows which players are cheating b'stards and how to play them, already played with new colleagues at int. level, up to the frenetic pace of the Prem. etc etc... need anymore?
