Kolo Toure [Merged]

Re: toure agrees city move (merged)

I can't think of man Italian, Spanish or Brazillian central defenders who've made it over here. Alex maybe, after years on loan, is making the breakthrough. Carvalho is as latin as anyone, but he is the exception to the rule, and both have notably been paired with the ultimate anglo-saxon stopper. At centre half, the successes are we have Scandanavians (mellburg), Northern and Central Europeans, Africans (including french-africans like distin) and, above all, English. Maybe there is something in this. Good attackers have come from everywhere, midfielders more or less too, but Latin defenders seem to have struggled. Collocini is the latest example. I always thought him a good defender before he came, but he sank without trace.

any other examples of those who made it?

This is a fair point but forwards can struggle badly as well. Crespo and Sheva both came over here in their prime ; the best Seria A had to offer and fell flat on their face I mean they were truley awful couldnt hack it in our league.

Its a tough and fast league. The reason the African, french, German, dutch and Scandinavian players tend to do well is that they dont mind the weather and they dont mind being kicked. They can accept and thrive with the physical nature of the game over here.

The Spanish seem to do well also.

But only if we buy established players too, Not a cat in hell's chance of people showing patience next season, it was bad enough on here last season.

Ben Haim was an established player, as was Danny Mills.

No guarantees with anything, we should by the best players for now and the future of the club.

And we shouldn't be put off by the prospect of a little discontent, it's meaningless in the scheme of things.

Crespo and Sheva were miles past their peaks when they came here!!

Re: toure agrees city move (merged)

It's a cliche but the pace and aggression of the English game requires adjustment - something which many overseas defenders can't do or are given the time to.

You cant be serious 28 - 29 is well past their best are you for real ! They had just had their best seasons in Italy !

More like Seria A is now a pub league and the overall standard is well below the prem these days !

ben haim spent year warming the bench and danny mills if recall was free and hampered by injuries. It doesnt always work but most it the time!

Sheva's peak was 03-05 and his best season I think was the 03/04 season when he could do no wrong for Milan, club legend and clinical striker supreme. Crespo's peak was many, many years before he went to Chelsea, nobody wanted him at the point where Chelsea signed him, his glory days were with Lazio in 2001 under our man Sven, and his best season was with Parma in 1999 when that incredible Parma team that produced so many great players of this generation won the UEFA Cup.
