I can't think of man Italian, Spanish or Brazillian central defenders who've made it over here. Alex maybe, after years on loan, is making the breakthrough. Carvalho is as latin as anyone, but he is the exception to the rule, and both have notably been paired with the ultimate anglo-saxon stopper. At centre half, the successes are we have Scandanavians (mellburg), Northern and Central Europeans, Africans (including french-africans like distin) and, above all, English. Maybe there is something in this. Good attackers have come from everywhere, midfielders more or less too, but Latin defenders seem to have struggled. Collocini is the latest example. I always thought him a good defender before he came, but he sank without trace.
