Crespo and Sheva were miles past their peaks when they came here!!

You cant be serious 28 - 29 is well past their best are you for real ! They had just had their best seasons in Italy !

More like Seria A is now a pub league and the overall standard is well below the prem these days !

But players tend to need a year to get used to the pace and strength of the league which takes them into their 30's (after a striker's peak). They were both slow, which is a key component of being successful in England, eg- Torres and Henry.

I've not trawled through the whole 39 pages of this thread but from a personal point of view I've always liked Toure. Very good feet and is comfortable on the ball.

But I was thinking, is it me or didn't he actually start off as a striker at Arsenal?

Re: toure agrees city move (merged)

I have gone on record as saying i dont rate toure, in fact i even said he was wank but after thinking about it over the weekend and the impending knowledge that he may actually become a blue has allowed me to re-evaluate my assesment and i have done a raggish u-turn and actually think he wouldnt be that bad a signing.

My problem with him is the same problem i have with micah, he is not a good 'defender' as such, more a player whose physical capabilities (mainly pace and strength) allow him to recover and make good challenges in situations that a more accomplished player would not allow to occur in the first place. The best defenders in the league (vidic, terry, carvalho, camelgob, skrtel, carragher and hypia, laursen before they left/retired) seem to make defending seem simple through their ability to read dangerous situations, this isnt something i really see when i watch arsenal defend.

Nevertheless he is a good player and an improvement on what we have already, i like how comfortable he is on the ball (something none of our players seem to be) and how he is happy to bring the ball out of defence. I still feel that we would need to sign either lescott or possibly hangeland to play alongside him to feel more secure at the back. These two are great in the air and good with the ball at their feet and dont seem to get flustered and give away possesion cheaply.

Toure

Can't believe it's got to the stage where people can't share info without the fear of someone jumping on their back. Fair enough when it's a blatant wum saying stuff like we're gonna sign kanu for £60mill but when it's info like this you should either believe it and be excited or simply ignore it. Most of the time people are simply passing on info they have been told and thinks genuine enough to share with fellow blues.

Anyway cheers for the info pollerz

Every national newspaper in the UK over the past 2-3 days would agree with you.

Re: Toure agrees city move [Merged]

One thing I didn't realise is that Toure only has a year of his contract to go, we could effectively sign him on a pre contract in 6 months time.

Makes me a touch nervous about the price we're willing to pay for him.

Re: Toure agrees city move [Merged]

I wouldn't be too worried about the figures put in the press Moomba.

Our owners are good business people obviously and while its fair to say they will pay a premium price because selling clubs know who we are backed by , we will not pay ridiculous amounts for the sake of it.

If Toure wants to come to City and Arsenal want to sell him and above all we feel he can improve the starting eleven then discussions will take place but for a player who can go on a free in 6 months the figures being bandied around are a little over the top I would suggest.

Re: Toure agrees city move [Merged]

Toure will be a good buy for us & hopefully will sign this week.
We'll need a commanding centre half next to him though as he's not the best in the air, with Given being suspect to high balls & crosses into the area as well then it's vital we have someone at centre half who can organise our back four.

If what you say is correct 'poor in the air' 'needs to be organised' then why on earth are we buying him? I just hope your judgement of his ability is wide of the mark...............

We don't care.

Re: Toure agrees city move [Merged]

I think Toure would be a fantastic addition to our squad. He offers yet more to pace to the back four, a dominating presence and a wicked shot from anywhere on the field. He isn't the best in the air, but I feel if we manage to get Lescott too, this will more than make up for it.
