In reference to the comparison between Mascherano and De Jong - Mascherano is in a completely different league (last season he made 3x as many tackles 4x the no. of interceptions and completed the most passes of anyone in the league).

Milner/Barry - Yaya Toure - Silva

with De Jong coming in for big games.

So, if he's a useful squad player, nothing more, why would you bring him in for the big games?

You have just completely contradicted yourself.

Also, there is at least on idiot on here, who is constantly slagging off Vinny.

How in any way is that a contradiction?

I think that you know how good a player truly is and what he means to you if you think about them leaving the club and how you'd feel.

I'd be gutted if these players left:
Hart
Kompany
Richards
de Jong
Silva
and disappointed but not gutted if Tevez left (I just lost faith in him with the transfer request)
oh and I don't want to see Zabaleta leaving this club, I really like him.

I honestly couldn't give a monkeys if anyone else left. Which spells out to me that they aren't proper high class, don't show they care, don't work hard for the club. Yes some are developing players but on the whole it shows we are a good few transfer windows and we need a bit longer to bring through some local talent before we have a team to be really excited about, believe in and be proud of.[/quote]

agree with this except would like Boateng to be given more time as cb.

Sorry i messed up the quote part

Kompany is incredible and the 2nd best CB in the league.

However De Jong is absurdly overrated by city fans (due to his commitment and warrior-like qualities).
He is a useful squad player, nothing more.
I wholeheartedly agree with this comment in its entirety. Kompany 2nd only to Vidic in the league, and De Jong is first only in the mind of City. :)

That said, I like De Jong and I don't think City needs a new player in that position. But if folks want me to mention better DMs, I can.

Wilshere
Song
Huddlestone

Diara (Madrid, and ex- Chelsea, Arsenal,
Masherano
Xabi Alonso
Inler
Busquet
e.t.c

De Jong is a very good City player, but he is not the best DM in the world. Just a great one for City.

tom huddlestone is better than de jong.... sure thing mate. and wilshere, one time he was asked to play holding mid he was made to look an arse by christian eriksen

Our players who give 100% commitment are simply, imo:

Hart
Richards
Zaba
Kompany
De Jong
Barry
Silva
Tevez

Actually, we have some players who are committed to our cause but we often overlooked because they aren't as quality: eg. Vieira, Kolo, Milner (dont forget he handed in a transfer req just to join us :] ).

Players like Balo and Yaya? I couldn't give a piss shit about them.

anyone who says de jong is the best dm in the world is clueless...............

there are a lot of dms better than him in world football.........

but he is an important player for mancini's tactics....... or you can say he is the perfect player for mancini's tactics........... he clicks that formation to be fair.......
but there should be a more creative player than barry along side him... that is where the flaw of the system is............

different coaches and teams use the dm position in different ways actually......... its the most important position in modern day football too.....some prefer a bit more offensive minded dm while some prefer players like de jong....

for me,the perfect dm is the player who is perfectly equal and good in both.........
there arent many players in the world like that.........
but,i think daniele de rossi of roma is a perfect mix.........

Dax, half of those DMs you listed I wouldn't even consider DMs.

Wilshere, really? Capello played him in a holding role and he was embarrassed by the Danish wonderkid. He is not a defensive midfielder in any sense. Several of those players are better than Nige going forward but the only two comparable to him for pure defensive ability are Mascherano and Diarra IMO.

De Jong is one of the few players in our side that top European clubs would want if available, along with Tevez, Silva, and Kompany.

He is excellent in the Makelele role and if Mourinho ever does manage our club, De Jong will be one of the first names on his team sheet. The problem is we play too many defensive types in the middle and Barry needs to give way to someone more creative while at the same time Yaya needs to be allowed to push forward more again. With Mancini though I can't see both of those events happening (maybe one) unless he has a lot of faith in De Jong + the defence.

A midfield like De Jong (holding) - Yaya (if he decides to give a damn) - Sneijder could be incredible.

don't think kompany or de jong would get in any of the other top 5 first 11 to be fair

Both would get straight into the other top 5 teams. Kompany as either a centre half or centre mid.

I think City fans have a problem appreciating what they have. I agree that as a team they are not performing as we know they can at the moment, but man for man we have probably got the best squad in the premier league.

Turning this round, which players from the other top 5 teams would improve our first eleven?

If we had the pick of all the other players in the prem I believe we would still have Richards (right back), Kompany (centre half), Silva (centre mid), De jong (centre mid), and Tevez up top. That's half the outfield.

komps nige carlos silva and zaba could play in any top side and not look out of place, possibly Hart too. In fact what a good side we have!

As someone who has been watching all the different leagues in europe (canal+) for years and watched the other top teams, played as a defensive midfielder and blessed with a high iq and eq I can safely say that:

Nigel de Jong is in fact one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Anyone who don't rate him as an excellent dm either don't understand the role of the dm, has something against him or is simply lacking between the ears.

Also, I'd rate Kompany as the second best centre back in the league or maybe even on par with Vidic. If I had to choose a third option it would be Vermaelen. It's a shame to see Belgium struggling so hard with such a talented group. I'd reckon they'd be a force within 3 years time.
