Kompany calls on Premier League clubs to drop ticket prices

Well said Vincent.

But after a quick skip read of this thread, annoyed that the same old "excuses" and "great ideas" (not) from some fans is happening again -

mainly the ridiculous defense of prices by those saying ahh but if you have a cheaper season ticket people just wont bother coming to some, it needs to be expensive to force them from their homes! Have you heard yourselves...?

agree with that 100%. way to many excuses on here from the same posters. i.e reduce prices people might not show up. how do bundesliga clubs cope or clubs in england with cheaper prices ? cheap as anything for a lot of german fans, you dont see thousands of empty seats though. even if people did pick and chose games so what ? at least it would be affordable. there are empty seats now with the prices we have.

city " sorry city fans we decided not to reduce ticket prices because people might not show up, instead to force people into going we will increase them"......

I attend only about 5 games a season due to ticket prices, if tickets were £20 ish I would attend treble the number if not more. (Simple) Haven't got a season ticket due to work and different kick off times.

Your work would remain the same and kick off times would be as random as they are now, so how would you manage to overcome these difficulties if ticket prices were reduced?

Because if the tickets were £20 for every game then they’d be even more non attendees. The problem hasn’t been selling out, it’s bee making sure people actually attend the matches they have a ticket for.

Surprised you found it difficult to follow.
There's always going to be a certain percentage who can't make it. That's really not the issue. You can't force people to attend if they're ill, working away, etc.

The real issue is atmosphere and VK has confirmed that a good atmosphere helps the players. So it's about the match-going demographic, how you get the people who create the atmosphere into the ground regularly and how you maximise their impact. What Vinny has said is that he believes it's price that is the major determinant factor of the match atmosphere yet we're arguing about side-issues.

As a fan base we are incredibly passive.

Those £299 season tickets sold out virtually instantly though and are a small section of the overall stadium if I recall.

When I got my season ticket in tier 3 south stand that’s the ticket I initially wanted, but they sold out in rapid time and instead had to get the £600 season ticket.
On renewal day I tried phoning the club several times but the lines were busy. Went down to the ticket office mid afternoon and asked if they had any £299 tickets left. Pleasantly surprised when I was told yes, so I bought one on 10 interest free monthly installments.

I was thinking of giving my SC up as they wanted £650 this season and I only made about 8 games last season through work and family commitments. Some games last season I'd let a couple of close friends use my card for free as I hate to see my seat not used. Two or three games though my seat was unused which pissed me off TBH.

This season I let my mate buy half the games for £150 so it's a win win for both of us. He keeps the plastic SC as he lives 20 miles from me, saves him dropping it off at mine. When it's my turn to attend I ring the club up and they send me an email with e-ticket, so I print it off and I'm good to go.

Maybe if people who can't go could be bothered to let someone else use it, there would be a lot less empty seats at games.

I have posted on and followed this thread from the start and can't recall anybody saying we shouldn't reduce prices, just pointing out possible consequences should it happen.

Work is the reason I don' have a season ticket but still could make 15 home games a season with cup/cl games.

alright my bad. it still sounds like excuses to me. the consequences of making football cheaper.. i mean surely the positives outweigh any possible consequences ( if its more affordable who cares about negatives really) . people can't always attend games and we may end up with a few empty seats, but at least people could afford to go again.

If they're saying that a good atmosphere helps them and that they believe ticket prices act as a drag on that, then they need to lead from the front.
as a group of players they are not all going to agree,we don't need political arguements like that between the team, the clubs need to act on the majority vote or on it's own
