Kompany-citys best ever centre back?

In my time I struggle to think of many good centre halfs. Mick McCarthy wasn't bad (great at heading out corners and crosses) and Daniel Van Buyten was brilliant for his grand total of 5 games. Then when I started thinking of Gerard Wiekens, who at least showed occasional moments of skill, I start to realise where our recent problems arose. As for best ever I think they must have been well before my time.

The best centre back I've seen in a city shirt was Dave Watson but for me Kompany is better.

WHAT?!

Tommy Hyndes (paid more than Billy Meredith was in the same
team)
Sam Cowan (captain)
Roy Paul (captain)
Mike Doyle (captain)
Dave Watson (captain)
Colin Hendry (captain)
Andy Morrison (captain)
Richard Dunne (captain)

Vincent has got a long long way to go to be given the honour of beingon this list. He's one of my favourite players, he's one of our best players, he's one of the best centre backs around at the moment, but come on he's been here five minutes and we've achieved nothing with him there...YET! I say yet because I believe Kompany should be our captain and be the man who will lift our trophies in the coming years. He will be right up with the bet on that list though.

(He's better in quality than the last three, but not in terms of club stature)

what about this guy ??? :L

What the fuck was wrong with pollock, charvet and edghill[/quote]

None of them were centre backs for a start.

He's rapidly catching up on the legend that is Spencer Prior!

Seriously though, he is a fantastic player, and I hope he's still around in another 2 or 3 years (to see just how much he will progress). Along with the majority on here, I would class Dave Watson as the best I saw in the sky blue.

The best players at most positions, are more likely than not going to be from the present crop. Much as we might love players from years gone by, the likelihood of the best players being around now are just greater. We are buying superstars now!

So at some point it is likely
the best keeper ever-> Hart
Defender-> Vinnie or someone yet to arrive
FB-> Kolarov or Wiel
Midfielder-> Silva
Attacker_>Tevez, Dzeko.

Not because they are the best now, but because they are closer to the best today than most of what we had in the past.

That said, for now I'd still go with Watson but Kompany has so much more potential!

Bet he has a shittun tomorrow now....!...potentially he's got the lot plus a wise head on young shoulders.

My top 3 for now....

Dave Watson

Mick Doyle

Tommy Booth
