This is an unfortunate choice of words used to defend yourself when this debate is based on the fact that a player had openly showed that he does care about what is written in the press. To say players 'don't give a toss' displays a severe misunderstanding of human nature, and maybe betrays the mindset of the hardened journalist.
As for Neil's piece, provocative and strong, but lacking that thing Vincent Kompany highlights - accuracy. See the point made about Ferdinand by a recent poster.
You're right, I should have chosen my words more carefully. What I meant was that nothing I wrote would ever destabilise those players, or any players for that matter. And that was never the intention, but rather to talk honestly about the situation as it was.
Would you prefer: "Edin Dzeko is fantastic, Mario Balotelli is brilliant, and City love them both and would never sell them."
As for Neil's piece, as I said, I don't agree with one or two of his opinions, but how would you say it lacked accuracy? Kompany was not suggesting there was no problem, but rather that the portrayal of a mutiny in some sections of the press was massively over-blown
