Kompany

None story as far as I'm concerned, Vinny is far more interested in the bigger picture than an pledged quarrel between him and Mancini

Mancini was correct in what he said re vk

Understandably vk not happy, but he should be a big enough man to accept constructive criticism....if he isnt then I would be worried.

If he left cause if this ( or did leave Hamburg because of it) he would drastically go down in.my estimations. ( sure he wouldn't be worried tho!!)

Ferguson has been doing this for yrs...regularalt getting players to even retire out right from international football....never ever questioned by the media/players/fans.

Well done mancini for sticking up for mcfc....or club.

City skipper Kompany accepts that United will recapture the league crown regardless of what happens at Old Trafford – but he says City are determined to salvage some pride, and the local bragging rights.

Kompany is keen to underline Roberto Mancini’s assertion that United’s 15-point lead over City is not a true reflection of the quality of the two teams.

“We could be 20 points ahead or 20 points behind, it doesn’t really matter on Monday,” he said. “A derby is a derby. I don’t think we could care less about the league in that game. It is about who is going to be champions of Manchester. That is all it is.

“We will just put ourselves in the right condition to be competitive. It will be nice to challenge them on their turf again.”

City completed the double over United last season – their sensational 6-1 win at Old Trafford was followed by a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium last April when Kompany’s headed winner set up a dramatic final day which saw City snatch the title from their neighbours.

This season, United redressed the balance by winning at the Etihad thanks to Robin van Persie’s last-gasp free-kick.

And although Sir Alex Ferguson’s side could lose or draw Monday’s game and still comfortably clinch their 20th league championship, Kompany expects the encounter to be just as intense as usual.

“I have never enjoyed a goal as much as I did the one in last year’s derby,” he said. “Last year’s game had so much more to it. You don’t get too many moments like that in your career. It is a completely different situation this time.

“I don’t expect United to be less motivated because they have this points gap between us where they are pretty safe. It will be like a one-off game. It will be like a cup final. There will be everything in it.

“For the neutrals, they have been able to enjoy some great derbies in the past couple of years. I can only wish the same – with a happy ending for Manchester City.”

Belgian Kompany’s wife is from Manchester and her family’s allegiances have always been with City.

“I understand what it is about,” he said. “I am all for the healthy rivalry. I get a lot of stick myself when it doesn’t go well, but I get the chance to give it out when it does.

Kompany is aware that Manchester City's season has been below par but is blaming no individual

We could be 20 points ahead or 20 points behind, it doesn’t really matter on Monday

“It is all good and friendly, that is how it should be. I am definitely not an enemy of the red side of Manchester. But I do enjoy the rivalry a lot.

“I have never been someone who has milked the result we had there last year. Those things don’t happen often.”

Although the defence of their league title has been a major disappointment, Kompany says City still have much to play for – ensuring they finish runners-up and lifting the FA Cup for the second time in three seasons.

“Collectively, it has been disappointing, “he said.

“It is always important as a group of players for everyone to accept responsibility. Everybody is able to do something, even when you are not playing.

“At the same time, I feel there is still a lot to look forward to. Whichever way we finish, this season might set us up for the next one.

“I always remember the way we finished the 2010-11 season. We finished on equal points with Chelsea [who were runners-up], which was a massive boost for us. That allowed us to secured a place in the Champions League and we also won the FA Cup.

“The season after that we went on to win the title. The end of one season has an impact on how you start the next one

Vincent Kompany on Barcelona's radar after row with Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini
Vincent Kompany’s fractious relationship with his Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will be tested by summer interest from the elite of the Champions League.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all on alert following the public club-versus-country row between Mancini and his captain.
The trio, all in the last eight of the Champions League, are long-term admirers of the Belgian, rated among the best central defenders in the world, and they are prepared to explore whether Kompany’s recent fallout with Mancini has any long-term consequences.
Mancini criticised the 26-year-old after he disobeyed an instruction to pull out of his country’s World Cup qualifier with Macedonia. He had not played for Manchester City for two months before last weekend because of a calf injury.
Belgian media have suggested Kompany was frustrated not only that he had been criticised publicly by the Italian, but also at the treatment he was receiving on the manager’s advice to cure the injury that kept him out for two months.
The Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad claimed Kompany was far happier working with national team physiotherapist Lieven Maesschalck, who he had asked to visit him in Manchester earlier in the season, and who was credited with overseeing his latest return to action.

Kompany is not a character who will shirk a confrontation, particularly on a matter of principle, and he made it clear he wanted to aid his country’s World Cup effort.
He responded to his manager’s comments when he posted a picture of his football boots on his Twitter page, declaring himself available for City’s weekend win over Newcastle.
City would be in a strong enough position to resist any interest in their captain even if they received world record bids for a defender.
He has become an iconic player since joining the club, his absence through injury contributing to a lacklustre title defence. If there was any suggestion of enduring strain between the captain and his manager due to the events of last week, many would argue it would have much more significance for Mancini than Kompany.
The idea of Kompany leaving, no matter how big the offer, would be unpalatable for a club who will be look to re-equip themselves over the summer to launch a fresh assault on the title.
The controversy started when Mancini asked Kompany to return to Manchester rather than play for his country.
“Sometimes players should understand that the club is more important,” Mancini said. “I am not saying the national team is not important, and I would never tell my players not to go to play for their country. But there are some cases when the club is more important, and all players should understand this.
“I expected that he wouldn’t play, and that he would be back after one or two days. Instead, he played for 90 minutes and now we don’t know his condition.”

Was he 100% fit? If so, I see no problem with him playing for his country.

I agree with anyone saying that Kompany will be at City for much longer than Mancini too.
