Kurt Zouma

From Love city's excellent blog.........

City have lodged an £11m offer for St Etienne central defender Kurt Zouma in the last fortnight.

We have recently been linked with a number of defenders, most notably, Porto’s pair of Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi.

But talks with Zouma’s club and his camp are now well underway and City are hoping a deal can be thrashed out before Christmas.

AC Milan have also registered an interest in the powerful 19-year-old, but the starlet has quickly indicated a preference to playing his football in England.

It all sounds very positive at this stage, although the only black mark against Zouma is his current ten-game ban for a leg-breaking challenge on Sochaux midfielder Thomas Guerbert last week.

Ironically, it would mean Zouma can’t play again until the January window closes.

Zouma’s agents have rocked City with personal demands of £100,000 a week, but it’s understood a compromise package has already been submitted.

Whilst I understand the art of negotiation, 100k a week for a 19 year old centre half is ridiculous even as your starting point.

Anyone watch this guy a lot and say if he is what we need?

Only on BT Sport and to be honest its hard to judge him as the French game is so much slower and less physical.

For my money we should put all resources into an experienced World class Centre Half.
Bit unfair, he had a MOTM performance against two of the best strikers in the world.

Switched off for the goal though ala Boyata, buy mid 20s player if we can - providing of course hes competent and can play games.

Serie A high-flyers Napoli want to battle big-spending Premier League side Manchester City for the coveted signature of St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma when the winter transfer market opens again for business in the new year, according to reports on Talksport.

The France Under-21 international has been attracting the attentions of a whole host of clubs throughout the Continent recently, with both Serie A giants Inter Milan and La Liga pace-setters Atletico de Madrid known to be keen on signing Zouma at the turn of the year.

However, it is actually thought more likely that the 19-year-old – who was recently handed a ten-match ban for breaking an opponent’s leg – would prefer a move to either the north west of England or Southern Italy if given the choice.

Zouma has been with the Ligue 1 side for his whole career to date, with the highly rated centre back making his debut for les Verts in the 2011-12 campaign, in which the Frenchman managed to score two goals in his 22 league outings for the club.

And in total, the central defender has managed to register four goals and one assist in his 60 matches for St Etienne, form that is now likely to lead to a fierce fight for his services come January.

Imagine having Zouma and Nastasic for the next 10 years.

Goal are on the ball with city stories so could be legs in this.

Would certainly make sense that we are looking at the lad. Why wouldn't we.

Move Lescott on in Jan or next summer, Demichelis/Kompany/Nastasic/Zouma as our recognised CB's.

Demichelis will retire in a few years at which time Rekik or Denyaer could be ready to step up!

It's from Paul Clenman who has been very good on our stuff and props to LC and his guy for having the story up on this kid a few weeks ago

I echo other posters sentiments that this is a goer. The only slight concern is will Zouma still suspended if or when we sign him?

they also said in the article that we had initial talks with etienne so i'm sure this is on!! and at 10M he won't be too expensive

would be a massive bargain if he continues on this trajectory
