Kyle Walker : 2018/19 performances

Normally this thread is a bit critical of him as an attacker and I normally pop in to praise him for his defensive work.

But weirdly, his attacking game was better than it has been today. Not so much with the ball at his feet, but more so in his movement and proactive play. His defensive game though was not good enough. It's opposite's day!

Fortunately though, unlike with other players' threads people seem to be cutting him some slack and recognising it as a blip.

He is an enigmatic player. When he's rock solid in defence he seems to have little attacking edge; when he joins the attack his defensive capabilities become flakey.

Scares me in and around our penalty area. Doesn’t seem to have a leap, never short of a nudge or push, and thinks making a back for a jumping attacker isn’t a foul.

He’s a footballer, no doubt, but I wouldn’t bet my life on him on Mastermind! One of the least intellligent footballers in our team and is easily read on the ball. Speed and strength are his forte, but end product is wank most of the time when he gets down the line.

Lastly, he is not a good cross stopper, and that ball is a killer to our defence.
Have to agree with all of that

The poor choice of pass annoys me. Often plays Ferny into trouble rather than playing the easy ball. He isn't a great footballer, he is athletic and that works for us. Again, hasn't had much time off so it is mental and physical fatigue that is the problem. Danilo never seems to be fit when we need him to cover. Danilo is good enough to challenge Walker and push him on. Stones then covers and gets injured making him have to play midweek. He is good enough to play for City of course but when he is below par he sticks out like a sore thumb because of how good our other players are.
Totally agree that walker( and Bernardo for that matter) looks tired.it wasn’t that long ago we were praisin* Walker as a great buy, personally his speed, strength and how quick ne bought into city and where they can go, means we should cut him some slack.i think sometimes he tries too hard to adhere to peps philosophy of playing your way out of trouble, when he should just play safe.but he never hides. For me he has and is an asset.

Thought he made crucial errors at key points last season - and I’ve seen no improvement this season.

For me he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

If danilo could stay fit for more than a couple of weeks, I think most on this forum would agree he'd have a great chance of displacing walker.

Must be on course to break the Prem league record for most 2 yard passes to a centre back. We have taken the most attacking right back in the Prem and turned him into Fernando.
