Disagree. I think we need to keep haggling until we sign either of Mendy, Walker or Bertrand. Clubs know that we don't have any FBs right now, so if we say fuck it and pay 60mil for Walker, Monaco would be like "hang on minute mate. we want 60 too. it's not like we want to sell". Same with Southampton. If we're able to close at least one deal, say Mendy for €40 mil (£35 mil), it would be huge because it sends out a message that we're willing to pay high fees but not exorbitantly high.
Sell Fernando.
Personally doubt it'll be anywhere near £60m. Can't see it.
If you are right then fair enough but Spurs aren't going to budge imo.
In a nut shell
What makes you so certain that we haven't already agreed terms some time ago and were just awaiting the announcements?
Stop dribbling Richards
I don't think they're even asking that.
common sense mate!;) our shelves are empty and Spurs/Monaco know this....in my opinion, this is the main reason why agreeing a fee is seemingly so difficult. Txiki playing a game of poker in which we showed our hand when the summer transfer window opened. (releasing 4 fullbacks- if you include Navas) If we want both Mendy and Walker is seems very likely we'll have to pay above market value, that just how I see it! Having 4 fullbacks, who's contracts all end in the same window and then loan out your only "young" backups, is just asking for trouble...Not trying to have a go at the way we do business but we've dug our own hole in this situation. Hopefully when/if Alves signs it might put alittle more control back into our corner, as we can use the fact we have our starting RB already in the squad and might make Spurs worry about us pulling our offer...
Mendy is different to Walker and Bertrand, we have the option to walk away and find somebody else with Mendy, With Walker and Bertrand, they have to be homegrown players otherwise we'd have to miss out on another foreign target elsewhere i.e Sanchez or replace an existing player who is likely to keep his place in the squad (so not the like of Fernando, Nolito, Bony,Nasri, Mangala etc etc) with another homegrown player. There's no real alternative with those two, everybody knows it, playing the haggling/bluffing game with those two will achieve nothing but wasted pre-season time.
When people count the foreign players in our squad plus likely additions Fernando is already assumed to be sold.
2 Keepers, Ederson and Bravo
5 Defenders, Alves,Mendy,Kompany,Otamendi,Kolarov (any potential incoming would be a straight swap for Kolarov/otamendi)
6 midfielders, Yaya,Fernandinho,Gundogan,KDB,Silva,Silva
4 attackers, Sane,jesus,Aguero,Sanchez
17 in total. Now it's true we don't have to register both Sane and Jesus as foreign this year in the league but we do in the champions league and there's no way any of them would accept being dropped for that and even if they did it leaves us 1 player extra next season when Sane would need to be registered.
As you can see, we're full and there's little to no dead wood that we can drop.
Hopefully the season after next, we can get rid of Bravo, free up a spot and replace him with a homegrown option but that's not going to happen this season.
Where would you rate Bellerin? Because he's also homegrown. And only 22.To be fair, I also think that looking at the England team, and comparing it to the best international teams in the world, RB is one of the best positions to have an England international in.
England - Walker.
Spain - Carvajal. The best in the world. Better than Walker.
Germany - Rudy? Walker is better. Kimmich is better than Walker but doesn't want to be RB.
Brazil - Alves. Presumably second choice to Walker
Argentina - Mercado. Walker is better.
France - Sidibé. Walker is better.
Belgium - Meunier. Walker is better.
Italy - Darmian. Walker is better.
is the right answer. If Levy is demanding £60m - just walk away and leave him with an unhappy player. I want Walker but we have to protect the integrity of our future transfer dealings - paying roughly double what a player is worth will haunt us for a long time. We must have a plan B - so we'd best dust it off.

Walker's not just English but he's in the right position too. I don't think there's any other position where an Englishman is as close to being the best in the world. Walker's not the best, but there aren't many ahead of him and they aren't that much better.
Compared to say, central midfield, where the likes of Kroos, Thiago, Modric etc. are on a completely different planet to their english equivalent...Henderson.
Walker & Mendy didn't fall off the shelf these deals were done weeks ago, we don't just phone Walker up & say ok mate you fancy City & £150-000 ok then we will ask Levy in July????common sense mate!;) our shelves are empty and Spurs/Monaco know this....in my opinion, this is the main reason why agreeing a fee is seemingly so difficult. Exactly this, if we have to then go out and buy a world class foreign right back and sacrifice Kolarov and Bravo's place in the squad to meet the foreign quota. I was fully behind giving Bravo a chance but a right back is far more important than a back up keeper. If Levy is demanding £60m - just walk away and leave him with an unhappy player. Will never happen. So right back will be our most expensive signing ever?
Sorry but it did look like dribble from here, at least that's what I hope it wasDribbling? Just asking mate.

Incidentally, who's gonna be our third choice keeper this year?
