The price is only going to keep increasing the closer we get to the start of the season with no full backs. Clubs can name whatever price they want. This is the cost of not being forward thinking enough and having to release and replace 3 senior full backs in a single window.

this!

We pushed ourselves into a corner and every club knows they can add an extra 10mil to any negotiations....our long term plan for the fullback position has been poor and its costing us ££££ this summer.....

They can name their price and we will pay it because there's no homegrown alternative. They know this, we know this, i don't see the point in haggling with this one. May as well stump up the cash now so he can at least have a full pre-season under his belt. He's got an awful lot to learn under Pep, i'd say more so than anybody else last year or anybody we sign this summer and not a lot of time to do it.

personally don't rate him, never have and i won't suddenly change that opinion if he signs for us and i doubt we'd be in for him if we had space for another foreign right back. Just have to hope Pep works his magic with him. I'm sure he'll do okay for us for a few years, particularly against weaker sides where he doesn't have to defend.

Disagree. I think we need to keep haggling until we sign either of Mendy, Walker or Bertrand. Clubs know that we don't have any FBs right now, so if we say fuck it and pay 60mil for Walker, Monaco would be like "hang on minute mate. we want 60 too. it's not like we want to sell". Same with Southampton. If we're able to close at least one deal, say Mendy for €40 mil (£35 mil), it would be huge because it sends out a message that we're willing to pay high fees but not exorbitantly high.

There are precious few English players worth the effort or money or hype. Walker's In the top bunch. I'm not sure there's an alternative out there in any position that wouldn't be even more of a waste.

I'd prefer to sign anyone for relatively low (non-internationals/youth) or promote from the academy.

Kyle Walker is not Philip Lahm. Not even close.

Lahm is the better out of the two. If you are talking £60m for a full back Sandro is the better bet (even if we can convert him as an emergency right back) along with Dani Alves and add another domestic base transfer. If we can get Walker for 40-45m then fair enough but there has got to be a cut off point.

How do you know this?

common sense mate!;) our shelves are empty and Spurs/Monaco know this....in my opinion, this is the main reason why agreeing a fee is seemingly so difficult. Txiki playing a game of poker in which we showed our hand when the summer transfer window opened. (releasing 4 fullbacks- if you include Navas) If we want both Mendy and Walker is seems very likely we'll have to pay above market value, that just how I see it! Having 4 fullbacks, who's contracts all end in the same window and then loan out your only "young" backups, is just asking for trouble...Not trying to have a go at the way we do business but we've dug our own hole in this situation. Hopefully when/if Alves signs it might put alittle more control back into our corner, as we can use the fact we have our starting RB already in the squad and might make Spurs worry about us pulling our offer...

What makes you so certain that we haven't already agreed terms some time ago and were just awaiting the announcements?

If Levy is demanding £60m - just walk away and leave him with an unhappy player. I want Walker but we have to protect the integrity of our future transfer dealings - paying roughly double what a player is worth will haunt us for a long time. We must have a plan B - so we'd best dust it off.
