That's the important thing to remember; the money doesn't matter to Real Madrid, City, PSG, Chelsea, United and to a lesser extent Barcelona, Bayern and Juventus.

When judging a signing it should be based on how much does it improve that team.

Lukaku to United in place of Ibrahimovic - We can all laugh because it's barely an improvement and they had to fork out a potential £90m for it.

Walker to City in place of Sagna and Zaba - Massive improvement to a club where money isn't an issue. So rivals may baulk at the fee but we can laugh at how much we are improving, on top of weakening Spurs.

I completely agree. Yes, the premier league is more physical than la liga, but if you're truly a quality player, given time, you'll succeed wherever you go.

If the City chiefs used the "premier league proven test", we wouldn't have signed Silva or Aguero — two of our best ever players

ANY player who has not played in the Prem is a gamble obviously the more talented the less of a gamble. There are many talented players who have been mint abroad BUT failed in England-Shevchenko & Veron to name just 2 amonst many.

Until a player plays for your team you never know for sure if they will succeed or not regardless of playing in England- i do not envy scouts.

For every Aguero there is a Kezman for every Defoe there is a Bony. This is why i was not overly bothered about us not getting Alves i think the leagues physicality would have been too much for him in my opinion.

You pay more for proven prem players because they have proven they can consistently perform over a few seasons, in my eyes you have to judge players over a minimum of 2 seasons- any player can have a great or crap season despite their talent- Bony being an example of a good season & Bravo of a crap one. Also if they are English it doubles the price due to the idiotic quota rule- there are very few top level English players so it hikes the price up, eeven with average ones it hikes the price up.

We have been missing pace & strength down the flanks for a couple of seasons now, it has cost us & i cannot wait to see us with that pace/strength again, i think Walker will be quality for us, but time will tell...

If you have pace & strength it is half the battle in England, Maureen knows our league well & this is why he buy strong & fast players, he buys too many though & seems to forget about ability :)

Before anyone calls me a rag i named Some Utd flops becaues it makes us all smile :)

Thing is about transfer fees is they are only remembered if the player is a duff, give it 6 months and nobody will be remotely arsed how much Walker cost when he is bombing up and down the wing.

Great signing. Improves us and addresses the home grown quota.

Some depressing, moaning, miserable cnuts in this thread. Can't believe they are all City fans.

Well chuffed. Couldn't care less about giving Spuds £50m as it will just get swallowed up by the ridiculous stadium costs rather than by spending on players

Pretty much sums it up.

He improves City hugely, as would Mendy, but by far the biggest cost driver in this will be the fact he's English. We only have 17 foreign spaces in the squad.

Ederson, Bravo (2)
Otamendi, Kompany, Kolarov (3)
Gundogan, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva, Silva, Sane, Fernandinho, Yaya (8)
Jesus, Aguero (2)

That's 15 already, and doesn't include players we are yet to sell like Nolito, Nasri, Fernando. Etc.

Add Mendy and your at 16 with one spot left and heavily chasing Sanchez. If overpaying £15m for Walker leads to you ending up with another Sanchez type player in the squad then that's a small price to pay. It's the same reason we are probably chasing Bertrand as well.

Would have hoped that our scouting network would have come up with a better player than walker for £50 million.

I hope Pep can take him to a new level because he has never really been anything better than average.

Lets hope he proves all us cynics wrong !
