Not sure why everybody is scrambling for feeble excuses to justify the price "Well United paid more for a player in an entirely different position" It's incredibly rag-like and needs to stop.

The fee is ridiculous, even by the current markets standards, but so what? We got our target. Let them laugh, if it wins us the league, we'll be the ones laughing come May.
It does irritate me when I read in various media outlets here in Germany that City is paying a crazy world record fee for Walker. That was a quote by the way, more or less. Media world wide simply copy and past what's coming from the UK media, and makes it look like City is acting crazily without any kind of sense and financial control. Money is no object for the irresponsible oil club from Manchester.
What"s wrong with this? Firstly, the reported world record fee is apparently incorrect, according to City. Secondly, any fee must be seen relative to the general transfer marked; i.e. other fees. Lukaku 100 million, Pickford 30 million, or here in Germany Tolisso to Bayern 35 million (pounds) are all good examples showing the general level of prices today. Off course this is never mentioned by any media. Why differentiate when you can make City look like the bad guys again?

Maybe others feel the same, and maybe that's why everybody are scrambling, as you put it.

One aspect of this I'm pleased with is that Walker is pretty strong in the air.

Under Mancini from goal kicks we used to have the option, if needed, to hit it to Richards on the right wing and he'd win the header. Chelsea had the same strength last season with Alonso on the left.

I expect us to keep playing it out from the back but just having this option should help to ease the pressure at those goal kicks where a bit of time passes and the opposition is able to completely reset. There were a few occasions last season when it was clear we were going to be pressed the second Bravo passed the ball out. Now we can choose our moment a bit more.

Also you must remember that Ederson can play Aguero straight in from goal kicks this year. That means the opposition defence will have to play deep from our own goal kicks and free up space all over.

Good post, what's that saying the more you keep telling a lie the more people start to believe it's the truth or something like that..

I'm sure City would have been delighted to buy Walker for less, if Spurs had been willing to sell him on that basis.

It's like going for an artwork. The price is what the seller demands. You may be able to get a few quid knocked off, but if it's genuine and rare you aren't going to get it half price unless the seller is broke and has no other potential buyer.

With Mendy and Walker we might just have an outlet for goalkicks. Poor Sagna has been trying to keep those kicks in for ages now.

I had some thick geordie twats (they are in-laws unfortunately) quoting the same shit about 55m ... this shit sticks.
I asked how much lukaku had cost united, they said - like the good little sheep they are 75m. I called them shit for brains and walked off (never argue with idiots - you can never win). My wife is not impressed with me...

Just let her know that you are withdrawing conjugal rights until she sees sense.

It really all comes down to how much is he worth to City? Last season we were 3 or 4 players short of a trophy winning team. Glaring weaknesses in an otherwise excellent team. Which means that Walker's value to City is much greater than it would be to most other comparable clubs. Its also worth paying an extra few million to sign him this week rather than in a months time because we're changing most of the defence and need the time to bed them in.

I heard Spurs making an offer for Benjamin Henrichs...a long term City target
Would have loved him here...can play at both right and left flank

To be totally honest I really don't care how much a player costs, as long as he improves us and I'm sure we wouldn't be buying Walker unless Pep was confident he would be an improvement.
Obviously buying any player is a risk and all clubs have made cock-ups not just us, but buying a quality proven Premier league player is less of a risk.
The amount of money in the game now means that all players will be more expensive and HG players even moreso.
Hopefully we will get Mendy later today, and then it's just a matter of deciding if there are anymore players that are are available and who will improve us.
No need to try and justify what we pay for players to anybody in the media and certainly not to the scum.
