I was reading something about Saudi Arabia's plans recently, where they pointed out that the money being pumped into football was tiny compared to some of their other ambitious projects.

It may also be worth it to them. They've moved from ageing stars, to the biggest young player in world football. They're paying huge sums because players don't see it as a serious league - it may be that with Mbappe there, they can persuade more, younger players to go, and they won't need to be paid 5 times the salary, but maybe 2-3 times. Sign up some other top players on longer contracts, and that Mbappe money might just be a good investment.

I would agree with that if Mbappe stayed 3/4 years but to sign him with an agreement to leave after one year surely shows the opposite message? Doesn’t really sell the league. Maybe it’s just a case if they are simply that rich they want the shiniest toy to show off
 
Imagine throwing away a €20 note every single second for one year… and still being €63 million better off than at the start of that year.

700 million. I don't care what is age is. You go do that 1 year in Saudi Arabia. It's silly not to.

There is no guarantee he'd get that kind of a deal when he is 30. Or that this Saudi league charade will still be ongoing then.

Tale the money. He was going to stay for 1 more year at PSG for 53 million. Why not spend that time in Saudi for 650 million more.

This guarantees he retires a billionaire.

I thought ffp was a European thing. The Saudi league is a show league.
 
It's crazy money that nobody can turn down, also nobody in Europe is paying that sort of money

To be fair, it has to be better than rotting at PSG for a year before moving. Why not make €700m and actually play football whilst you wait for the Madrid move? It just seems like such a no-brainer, I think it’s happening.

PSG will be so desperate for the money too, instead of losing him on a free, that they’ll probably be making it clear he’ll rot if he stays.

And this whole it is just for one year claim. So they'd pay supposedly €300m to buy him off PSG, pay him €700m, and in a year watch him on the tv at Real Madrid with nothing to show for a 1bn investment? Aye ok.

Daft not too - it's a ten to fifteen year career that could be ended any second by a random injury. I wonder which old rag or dipper will be wheeled out to say how much better it was when an elite players aspiration was to make enough to buy a pub to drink themselves to death in?
