Kylian Mbappe

His body doesn't have Ronaldo's abilities and never will, but his brain is surely on that level. He looks more mature and tactically developed than Messi and R9 at the same age, reactions and anticipation are almost insect-like if you get what I mean.
He's already reached Henry's level being only 18, can't even imagine what his ceiling will be. I feel his future will be decided this summer. Staying for a year, then moving to Madrid is the most likely outcome I'm afraid.

I don't think it's quite as straight forward as it seems for Madrid. Mbappe and his family are smart. They're cultured enough to understand that money and headlines aren't everything. They've so far moved him for nothing but sporting reasons and turned down plenty of big money offers even at the age of 14.

I agree that whatever his next move is, it'll be decided this summer. Something struck me last night whilst watching that Monaco side. They've not got a hope in hell of keeping together the core that makes them tick. Silva, Fabinho, Bakayoko, and Mendy will all move this summer. I'd be shocked if Lemar didn't as well. Hard to see from there what keeps Mbappe at Monaco.

Even Jardim will get poached. This CL run is their moment. When it ends I think that side gets torn apart.

I don't know. On paper that kinda makes sense if City want Mbappe to lead the line next season. Big risk letting Kun go though.

agreed but pep seems to be ready to start a new generation of superstar team? mbappe, sane, jesus, sterling, ederson, laporte, mendy, de bruyne, stones, all young and ready to be moulded a pep guardiola way? with experience like sanchez, bonnuci possibly as well? I always remember watching a ferran Soriano interview where he stated that you have to know when the time is right as a business to sell? maybe getting £70m for Sergio is now that time?

Honestly, go all in for the kid, he's the kind of predator in front of goal we absolutely need with our squad.

The talk of Griezmann as a replacement is fine and all, but this kid has Ballon d'Or ceiling, much like our own Leroy Sane, but with a floor of a "top ten in the world" kind of player.

Nobody will be talked about like the Ronaldo, calm down people.

Maybe like fake Ronaldo though.

Agreed with this, though I think Monaco won't be in the mood to part with more than 4-5 of their stars in a window, if that (and in particular if they go on to win Ligue 1)

Bakayoko has all but asked to leave, Fabinho isn't far behind. Silva will get poached and some team, somewhere will make Monaco an offer on Mbappe they simply can't refuse. That's already pushing it and I can't see them letting any more than that go, if even. Holding on to Silva would be a major victory for them.

If we are going to get just one, and I assume we will, then it has to be Mbappe.

I think this will be the first season where teams will actively try outmaneuver us to stop us getting a target.

The thought of Jesus, Sane, Mbappe, Sterling terrorizing European football for the next decade is enough to make the big boys crap their pants into action.

I thought he was fantastic last night.Much like our own Jesus,he's one of those players who has that something special.

His confidence knows no bounds and his intelligence, close control, strength and speed are all top notch - he really is a very rare talent and if there is any opportunity to bring him here,it has to be done, even if that means losing Aguero IMO.

I'm not saying this is certain but the hierarchy have been waiting to open the chequebook on such a player, as stated he's going to be a phenomenon, however, money won't be the only factor but I personally think we'll let it be known that we'll outbid anyone (without it being broadcast)..

If the kid is as smart as is being relayed, he'll realise city already have 3 of the brightest talents in world football in attack, compare that to the other major teams and it will be hard to resist. Potentially the most frightening forward line in football, he is the proverbial 'missing link'....

And if we pull it off, we're up there as THE place to be for the worlds young elite.

I would have though PSG would have been all in for him.

Why would he be interested in going there when he's got clubs like City and Madrid after him? They'll pay him just as much but he'll be with better players, better managers and in a league worth twice as much.

My only worry is that they're all in similar positions. Would be nice if we could lay our hands on a teenage once-in-a-generation centreback, keeper or holding midfielder.

That'll come no doubt, but the flip side is those players only seem to come to attention in their mid 20's after a few seasons proving themselves. Strikers get attention of the world much, much quicker.

I'm not saying that he would choose them over us or Madrid if all financials were equal but If I was Nasser I would be going all our to get hold of a player that could be an icon for France and their capital city. A marketing opportunity of immense proportions.

Release clause klaxon

To fill in the gaps on this, Monaco's sporting director said in an interview:
1. Mbappe has a release clause (which is strange, why then did City even bother putting a bid that was rejected?)
2. He "doesn't know" how much the release clause is.
3. Real Madrid have NOT contacted Monaco about Mbappe.
4. Monaco would like to keep Mbappe, but understand the market and are almost resigned to him moving on.

No mention of any interested parties in Mbappe, obviously, but you'd have to imagine the rags will push very hard.

Meeting a release clause automatically opens talks between the club and player. Clubs can still bid below the release clause, and the selling club can decide if it's worthy or not. Ours wasn't up to scratch it seems.

While true, surely over the course of negotiations with Monaco it would have come to light that Mbappe has a release clause in his contract and Monaco would, obviously, not be accepting low-ball bids. I imagine we didn't bid £35million with the expectation that we'd be turned down on what was, at the time, a largely unknown commodity.

Regardless, Mbappe has a release clause and City would be mad not to meet it.

Afternoon chaps, this all sounds rather positive??! This kid seems EXTREMELY special and now would be the time to blow everyone else out of the water and do the deal! We have the perfect manager and the perfect platform to allow the lad to possibly be one of the best ever

I think in the current situation it's the player's side that holds all the cards. The main question is where he wants to play and the way he sees his career to develop. All the negotiations between clubs, transfer fees, clauses etc. are of secondary importance. Release clause can only affect the future transfer fee, not the fact of transfer himself, and don't forget that his current deal expires in 2 years. If he wants to come, he'll come sooner or later. Mbappe's future will be decided by unofficial phone calls and meetings, not in the negotiation rooms.
Edit: if the clause is, say, 200m, it would be crazy to meet it without any attempt to lower the price.
