Who's the bigger star in real Madrid eyes

They signed James Rodriguez largely because one worldie at the world cup elevated his profile temporarily. Imagine if Mbappe scores a couple more times in CL semi final and final.

I don't think Madrid is particularly thick. I think Mbappe is the hottest player in Europe right now. Hotter than Ronaldo or Messi.

I don't think the fact that Aguero has a bigger resume would be any more convincing to Madrid. Across Europe everyone is talking about this kid phenom. He might currently is shinning brighter than anyone's. So he is the one Madrid will want.

Also, Zidane is French, so more likely than not he even has a nationalistic reason to bring the hottest young prospect in football to Madrid.

I see no reason why they would prefer Aguero to Mbappe. None.

I mean, there could be £50 million difference between the two and Madrid are widely regarded to be targeting Eden Hazard this summer too, among other signings.

Blowing their load on one Mbappe may not be so prudent, never mind that the signing wouldn't necessarily fit their MO.

Regardless, Mbappe has a release clause and City would be mad not to meet it.

Really? Let's say his release clause is 120m+ and I'm sure even by the board's standards that would be stretching it, what would be so mad with not meeting it. Worst case scenario he moves on to join a Madrid or even a direct premier league rival and goes on to be a 'next henry', its not the end of the world these things happen and the team still moves on with Sane, Jesus, Raheem and potentially Sanchez for the next 3-4 years and more. Another young talent will come through soon that can be bought in the future(they always do). You can't always get all the best young talents in the world regardless of how wealthy you are. IMO the team with the four I've mentioned would already be sorted and still go on to incredible things and win many trophies regardless of Mbappe.

They've signed2 big players in 1 window before. So I wouldn't put it past them. That said, I'd expect them to prioritize Mbappe over even Hazzard for multiple reasons
1. He is the hottest prospect in Europe
2. He is French like the manager
3. He is a striker replacing the French striker he is replacing on the national team.

A team known for buying or trying to buy the new hot hype player in Europe can be easily expected to want to buy the current hottest prospect in Europe. To presume they'd rather buy Aguero seems like wishful thinking.

The money argument though has some validity, if they in fact want Hazard. I don't think they do. But that's just my opinion and not an argument.

I mean, I'm not sure I advocate £120 million either, which would be getting on to Messi money, but what you've essentially said is this:

"City shouldn't pay the price for Mbappe even if he turns out to be the best player in the world and goes to the rags AND even if we can afford it without it negatively affecting other signings"

I'm not sure many here would agree with that statement.

I agree that with our current youngsters, we'll see success yet, but the club brought in Pep to usher in a new era of global success and you'd imagine a Champion's League would be part of that. Mbappe would be a big statement towards that end, IMO.

Hazard would be such a bizarre signing for them to make...he's a good player he just doesn't fit in their team unless you're going to get rid of Bale or Ronaldo. And Ronaldo can't play 9, they've tried that so many times to accomodate James or Isco, but it doesn't work.

I agree but Perez love's Aguero and commercially it might make more sense for them
And sheikh mansour has financed the redevelopment of the bernabeu might not be about what zidane wants more of a question of what Perez has to do

I disagree with all your reasoning. Mbappe is "hot" but he isn't the finished article. Madrid don't buy potential. They buy guys who go straight in and hit the ground running. Mbappe isn't that guy.

People say this a lot but it actually isn't true. Isco, Rodriquez, Varane, Marcelo, Drenthe, Huntelaar, Odergard just to name a few recently suggests Madrid buys hot players.

The common factor has always been "being hot", that some of them like Fake and Real Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Kaka and Nistlerooy were also accomplished was just incidental. Hot players often are accomplished. That's how they became hot in the first place, but Madrid generally buy hot talent.

So yeah, I expect Mbappe is now #1 on their shopping list.

Yes and I clearly state that to be the worst case scenario. I'm not sure what I said in my full statement that you took the quote from would be hard to agree with. What you basically said is all based on a big 'what IF' of him reaching his full potential and like I added even in those circumstances its not the end of the world if the club misses out on him as more will come along. I'm not even sure madrid will pay any price for a young prospect mainly based off his potential from 1 season just because they can afford it. Their two most expensive buys(bale, ronaldo) were players reaching their peak who had built a brand and name over a couple of seasons and were practically close to being the finished article. The largest they spent on young players were the £35.8m and £23m for benzema and isco respectively whom at the time were both 21 and had a couple of consistent seasons at the top level in building a name for themselves. I just find the idea that teams are willing to break transfer records for him based on 1 season hard to believe

Why do you put a q in RodriGuez?! I've seen it a few times now.

If I was Mbappe I'd be tempted by the Milan clubs. Guaranteed minutes, more chance to settle in gently, chance to revive a fallen giant and the opportunity for a bigger move 2-4 years down the line.

Can't help but imagine similarities between Aguero became for us to what Mbappe could be for someone else. Dybala, Aubameyang and Griezmann too, all show the benefit to looking out outside those superclubs.
