Can you imagine though if we buy him fpr 140m now and he realises his potential and Real want to come in for him at a later date how much we'd be asking for in 3-5 years. He'll be unobtainable unless he runs his contract down and I reckon that will factor into his decision. Real will be his ultimate goal and he might feel it's now or never to go there.
If we get him now, with the team we're building, with the manager we've got and the future looking as bright as it is, I would stick my neck out and say that we might be just as successful a team as RM in 4-5 years time and regardless of how much money they offered for him he wouldn't be going anywhere.
I remember people saying similar things about Aguero when we first signed him. Nothing happened.

Yeah fair point and I agree with you. I'm more thinking of this 18 year olds mentality this moment. If he's as much of a Real fan as we're hearing it's going to be in his head now that he has to join them at some point and might think it will be hard down the road.

I agree if he does take the chance with us then he probably won't want to leave in a few years if we progress as expected. We'll see I hope he comes!

I agree with the general thrust of your post but I would imagine that he will have his agent and his family, and maybe even people at Monaco talking to him and I would expect these external factors to have a great influence on his final decision. So i would expect the fact that he is a RM fan to feature in his thinking but I wouldn't expect it to be the deciding factor.

Ha - fantastic

If pep is staying long term then mbappe is the option that would suit better. Sanchez would bring instant results. Mbappe may take 1 year to totally transition to the premier league.

Either way we win because we also have Jesus who is just beginning his ascent

I don't think it's an either/or question with Sanchez and Mbappe though, we'd be happy with either/or but we're pursuing both because we want both. If we got both someone else would give way as Sammy Lee just stated on twitter.

We need instant success if pep is to be here long term as well. We have plenty of young talent who might get to that level but Sanchez right now is on a totally different level with his output of goals and assists especially in big games.

If mbappe really is the outstanding talent of this up and coming generation, then we need to try to get him now at all costs. If we don't, we may never.

FWIW the over/under on league goals is 18.5 for GJ and 19.5 for KUN.

That's incredible expectation on GJ and I for one thinks it's warranted. I reckon KM would be somewhere around 20.

They are both still 17 and Mbappé turned 18 in December while also having the advantage of being relatively tall and more physically developed for his age.

Seriously he's a great player for his age but the Mbappé hype is ridiculous(gets even better in peoples heads when he's not even been playing football recently), before last season he was considered a top young prospect(among many)... not a future Ballon D' Or winner since birth or any other bollocks being spouted... top clubs are in for the top young tallent for their academies it's that simple there's many cases like that. There's no point acting like it was out of the norm for City or Real Madrid to be interested before last season either. The fee and the hype have reached ridiculous levels and it's more amusing watching people failing miserably to justify it.

If we land him fair enough, there's good and bad in it... lets not act deluded about the fee being reasonable or justified(we just live in crazy times for football and that's it) or we'll embarrass ourselves as a fanbase, I always think of how our fans would react if the shoe was on the other foot in situations like this.

Is he worth it - who knows.
The justification are those top clubs willing to break a world record TF to secure his services - not BM posters believing he is
