Pep was already at the club and had a couple years with the reserves. You could call 2008 a calculated risk.

1 year with the club as a coach of a 4th division Barca B, not exactly a resume that trumps what Xavi is currently doing. Guardiola was actually approached for the job in 2007 and preferred to take Barca B first which surprised Txiki et al

There are a lot of parallels between Xavi & Pep with the former being a better player, question is how he will be as a coach

There are no guarantees that Xavi can replicate what Guardiola has done as a coach in that short space of time. The state of your club is in right now it would be worse environment than 2008, for Xavi's first major job.

Barca in 2008 were in pretty good position. Problem was the players underperforming but the quality was there.

The current Barca is fairly old, stale and slow. Needs complete revamp if we are honest.

Valverde gets lots of flack and is not blameless, but the current Barca squad does no manager favours. Its not shit, but its not world class squad either other than on paper.

Since 2010, Barca's squad has been worse year by year, there was that short term boost in 2014/15 winning treble, but due to age profile of Rakitic, Suarez and other key players in their prime, it was never going to last.

Absolutely irrelevant, no one made such a claim - no idea what you are on about

The only guarantee is that Xavi would be a better fit for the club than the coward caretaker that is Valverde, no self respecting cule would remain coach after the debacles he's been in charge of - they would've stepped down. More than wins/losses is the manner in which the team plays, they are nowhere near what fans are accustomed to or the brilliance of this past decade to 15 years. Xavi would ensure they would play the right way & insist on sharpness in passing, movement & rhythm of play - something that is remarkably absent

But as I have long said, even when Valverde was rumoured for the job he was never the right fit. He prefers 4-4-2 and is incapable of offensive/attacking football, now even the defense is shambolic for a club of its stature. But Bartomeu, so no idea what happens next as it seemed improbable Ernesto would be spared the sack after Anfield but here we are talking about the same lack of intensity 8 months later

Valverde (for the second leg against Liverpool alone) has to go but Xavi wouldn't be the right fit either is the point I am making. You used Guardiola as an example and I am saying Xavi won't replicate those achievements . I can't think of anyone who could improve Barcelona's situation either.
