Labour / Tory Party meltdown Referendum fallout

IMHO, the posh 11 shadow Cabinet Ministers who resigned today are at the heart of Labour's inability to connect with working class communities.

The SNP put forward candidates at the last General election who local people
Could relate too.

Labour needs more working class stars!

Well the leader with his bubolic upbringing in Wiltshire and Shropshire and his prep school education is no working class star.

Sot on mate! Ed Balls lost Morley that should have been a safe Labour seat.

A local person could do great things. It pisses me off that Andy Burnham is after the Mayor Manchester role.

And that eye liner wearing career politician slagging City off as well, he can GTF.

True mate but he does seem popular with a lot of Labour members. Some people may be from a more affluent background and are convincing Labour people eg Tony Benn. I know Corbyn isn't in the same league. I just think there needs to be much better balance amongst the Labour MPs.

You're absolutely right about turkeys not voting for Christmas, and my post was more in hope than expectation. That said, the conditions are presently better than they have ever been for effectuating such change, such is the general antipathy towards politics and politicians. I agree with your observations about the standard of our politicians, which is utterly woeful.

Maybe the Libdems time in government, rather than be a byword for political failure, could serve to demonstrate how different political parties, of greatly differing ideologies, can effectively work in government together.

One of the reasons I voted out was that this could give people the balls to demand change, I am pessimistic by nature but fingers crossed, with this referendum and the move towards devolution and more local responsibility it is now or never. PR, less mp's, no House of Lords, highly paid but party free mayors running counties is my dream.

Yup when Lucy Powel lost to Leech in 2010 against the will of many manchester central members who nominated someone else, she was shoehorned into the candidency, the system of finding a select set of people a seat anywhere rather than the local choice baffles me sometimes

Don't get me started lol! I'm already banned from some of the threads on this forum. Burnham Auditioning to be a professional scouser for years shouldn't be eligible for the Manchester job!

What are the chances of the right of the Labour party and the left of the Tory party forming a new SDP type party ?

Can this happen ?
I think it's very likely and I think it'll happen quite soon. The Labour Party is firmly in the grip of its predominantly far left membership and there is a huge disconnect with the mostly centre left PLP. I can see three quarters of the PLP along with a few Tories jumping ship to join the new party and I can see it taking over as the biggest opposition party. None of this would have been conceivable without the Brexit vote but all bets are off now.

Am I missing something but we have a Tory government and if I was a betting man we will have one for 6 more years at least.

The Lib Dems should have been in prime position to take advantage of the current chaos but Farrons stance is ridiculous. Brexit is happening whether we like it or not, the rest of the EU will see to that.

There's a big split in the Tory party also and if the new leader can't re-unite the party I can see quite a few MPs bailing out of the Tory party. Not as many as Labour but a few nonetheless.
As for 6 more years with the Tories in power, the most likely way that will be achieved will be if the Labour Party sticks with Corbyn, and there's no breakaway.

The Lib Dems are too Europhilic (if that's a real word) to be serious contenders following a Brexit vote.
