Saying that if they win the General Election they will raise the minimum wage to £8 an hour. Fair play to Millibland, this is a vote winner.

He's on the Andrew Marr show right now.

£8 hr is unsustainable for a lot of businesses and will see many low waged jobs disappearing

Yeah and didn't we hear this when they were bringing in the minimum wage.

So.

To those who think it's a good(bad) idea, was it a bad (good) idea when this guy said it?

He's on the Andrew Marr show right now.

Edit: said the following:

1. They will raise the higher tax bracket to 50%.
2. Wouldn't be dragged into the English MPs voting on English issues.
3. NHS would be protected, everyone would be able to see their GP within 48 hours.

Handled himself quite well, but still sounds like he needs to blow his nose.

He's a total shithouse.

How do you make that out because he's not thick as pig shit enough to stitch himself and future labour party's up to fall for Camerons con. Even ITV News were reporting on this as an absolute attempted stitch up from that **** Cameron to ensure that even a Labour majority party would be ungovernable because of the majority of tory seats in England.

Wasn't the same said when the minimum wage was introduced?

Yes but at the time a lot of councils would increase rates if you dealt with them.

They wont this time,I think it should be more but if like us you do business in the public sector it has to come from somewhere and I dont know where as my rates have stayed the same for 5 years!

Re: Labour's Minimum Wage Promise/Millibland on Andrew Marr

I'm voting for Labour for now unless another party can atleast match or better it. This is the deal clincher for me.

Minimum wage right now is a joke. Why should people who go to work and earn a decent living live less comfortably than people on benefits? doesn't make sense and shouldn't happen, these people shouldn't be losing homes the goverment needs to protect those people.

Ed raising the stakes in the election campaign, and it might tilt the tide in Labour's favour with the working class (majority) in shite jobs.

Miliband has played a blinder here I feel (and he gets a lot of stick some of it justified). It's about time the minimum wage rose as it's a joke and fair play Labour are the first to plan radical changes to the current flawed system.

No the cost of product or service to the end user will just increase to pay the higher wages

Too simplistic
Businesses will just make people go self employed, avoiding sick pay holiday pay PAYE etc

You can not actually do that If a self Employed person only has one Client they run the risk of being investigated by HMRC and they can deem you are actually an employee. if it was that easy for us owners of small businesses we would all do it and we would be able to replace staff at any time by just saying we no longer need their services. European legislation also guarantees employee rights

Ha ha, and there was me thinking nobody could be more delusional than the average rag.. Labour couldn't plan a piss up in a bierkeller.. Empty words from a ridiculously inept, champagne socialist and totally undeliverable just like most of their country bankrupting policies.

Yes even though a similar minimumwage has been adopted in countries such as Belgium, Germany, Australia and the proposed wage is still less than many countries. Also a minimum wage is supported by George Osbourne, Vince Cable and Edd Milliband. Clearly they are all delusional
