The last World Cup which genuinely excited me was 2002 in Korea and Japan it had some magic around it with so many football legends, since then I haven't got excited for a international tournament.

Could argue that if your a fan of a champs league side then most of the players we see for ourselves Silva,Aguero, Yaya etc or against us Xavi,Iniesta, Messi, Tranny, Di Maria etc, loved 86 and 90 as a kid but tv and premier league weren't enjoying delights of Baggio, Maradona, Careca, Platini, Klinsmann etc.

2006 is when I started getting excited for them haha. First one Australia had been involved in since I was born. Don't take it for granted, you never know if this could be the last one your national team makes for a while.

I'm beginning to look forward to it now. Not just for England, but to watch a lot of hopefully good games. Some good match ups in the group games and the possibility of Brazil v Spain/holland/chile in the first knock out round.

True.

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that in a few years time England will have to be selecting players from The Championship, and it is quite conceivable, in my mind at least, that we will struggle to qualify for world cup finals.

There are so few English players being given their chance in the Premier League these days, it doesn't bode well for the future of the national team.

The same can be said for English managers as well.

All the millions of pounds that have been pumped into the academies over the years hasn't produced very much of real quality, which begs the question 'what's going wrong?'

Quite a lot, when you think about it.

If Hodgson is brave enough with the squad he's picked, it could be quite a decent World Cup.

Hart
Johnson
Baines
Cahill
Jagielka
Gerrard
Henderson
Lallana
Sterling
Barkley
Sturridge

This would be right up my street and we'd still have Oxlade Chamberlain, Rooney, Wilshere, Milner and the rest to fall back on.

Im actually looking forward to this one, haven't since France 98 / Euro 2000 really.

Theres always a dark horse, and we have a good chance of being it this year. No expectations, for the first time in a while.

My favourite was the world cup in Argentina with all the ticka tape etc.

It was just awesome and I hope Brazil generate the same carnival atmosphere!
