Lack of excitement for the World Cup?

2006 is when I started getting excited for them haha. First one Australia had been involved in since I was born. Don't take it for granted, you never know if this could be the last one your national team makes for a while.

True.

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that in a few years time England will have to be selecting players from The Championship, and it is quite conceivable, in my mind at least, that we will struggle to qualify for world cup finals.

There are so few English players being given their chance in the Premier League these days, it doesn't bode well for the future of the national team.

The same can be said for English managers as well.

All the millions of pounds that have been pumped into the academies over the years hasn't produced very much of real quality, which begs the question 'what's going wrong?'

Quite a lot, when you think about it.

Haha. We're finally getting some technically good players though, we'll be fine. I'd rather have one Barkley than 10 Nolans.

I'm excited for the world cup, why wouldn't you be? Loads of great sides, great kick off times considering it's halfway round the world, it's going to be good.

Very very excited I intend on watching most games for this seen as they're on at night. Gonna be some fat naps when I get in form work then late night football watching.

After the debacle of the vuvuzela 2010 world cup which was a fucking disgrace to football and an insult to every other world cup I can't wait for this. This one's gonna be good

there has been some great world cups.

the best world cups are held in countrys where theres a real passion for football, argentina, germany, italy,so im really hoping for a cracker this time round.

also with so many city players playing that will keep my interest high, ill be watching all the argentina matches(work allowing) that's for sure

im going for the argies to win it,with aguero to be the star of the world cup :)

It could be OK, I suppose.

My excitement will be determined by the team that Hodgson picks in the first game

If he goes pragmatic (which i think he will) then i think we are in for a borefest of a tournament

I'd rather see us coming out all guns blazing and have a proper go at teams

My team
Hart
Johnson
Cahill
Jagielka
Baines

Gerrard

Sterling
Henderson
Wilshire
Lallana

Sturridge

Roys probable team

Hart

Johnson
Cahill
Jagielka
Baines

Gerrard
Henderson
Sterling
Milner

Rooney
Sturridge

I suppose it's when we have hope we might actually do something that it feels more exciting. Hopes are low this time around.

I have said it before - if England could take penalties our whole perception would be totally different. In the last 25 years if we could take penalties we'd have had at the very least:

1990 World Cup Final
1996 Euros Final
1998 WC quarter final
2004 Euro semi-final
2006 WC semi-final
2012 Euro semi-final

It is narrow margins.

That's actually a quality point. Good post.

I am buzzin for the world cup! No lack of excitement here. It's such a fun change of pace. Worlds best players, Cinderella stories, what could be better!? I would always rather watch club football, but I don't have that choice, so this is an awesome substitute.
