Last Film You Saw

The last time I saw a Superman film it was Christopher Reeves, so this one wasn’t anything like I expected it to be, but enjoyed it a lot. Helped by the fact that, this time last year, they were filming it literally outside our window. Our apartment is in the movie.View attachment 162917

I wouldn't be happy paying a service charge with that patio mate

Superman, loved it. More of an ensemble film with Superman being more central than others.

10/10 and I’d happily watch it again tomorrow.

Brilliant soundtrack from a brilliant band...
Actually Queen music, if you can call it that, :) is more suited to films and stage musicals, due to it being over-hyped, egotistical , theatrical, and lacking in real musical depth.
Freddie should have been on a stage in the West end.

I'd actually rather listen to the Smiths or U2, and I'm not too keen on them...
Does anybody like U2 ?
Sorry Jimbo..hahaha.

Sheesh the mixed reviews of superman are really leaving me conflicted.

Me too mate.
Confused , should I, shouldn't I ?

Everyone and their Aunt are making reviews of the film (me as well, I suppose) and it's going to depend on the background of the reviewer as in for what reason are they having their positions.

Having seen the film and I have I, specifically, watched or read the reviews from several different positions and I'm finding it's Snyder-verse fans Vs Gunn-verse fans and Right wing Vs Left wing political leanings.

Me? I chose the comic book fan in me as Gunn is probably, and objectively, more into the comic book lore than I since his continued vocation.

Funnily enough, a similar comic book fan/ nerd to me said he thought it was a solid foundation to what comes next, as I did.

So, just make a decision to go or not and don't take on reviews until after, if you do go, is my opinion.

There certainly does seem to be a marmite effect for it. Most people I know that’s have seen it really liked it with the odd “hated with a passion” lobbed in.

As I mentioned last night this is more like superman with friends, While it’s clearly a superman film, some of the other characters get a lot of screen time too. It’s clearer setting up the whole new DC world by doing it. Getting ready for new films to be coming soon.

I’d say if you liked guardians of the galaxy you will like this one. Its certainly a lot more akin to Guardians than Man of steel.

The one thing I wasn’t a fan of
Was the message from his parents saying to rule over the Humans. That didn’t fit right. There maybe some obscure comic reference in there but I couldn’t find it.

That is pretty much the story of the dragon ball comics/anime.

But that being said I can see why it was added.

As per your spoiler, as I said in my initial post about the film Gunn has lifted from multiple genres and arcs.

The one you mentioned is a fairly new take in direction.

Oppenheimer.
Sloooooooow burner, took a while to get going( probably 2 hours) but pretty decent overall.
Murphy was probably chosen for his experience in having a cig in his gob in every scene, even the shagging bits.
A good film. A bit on the long side, though. I found my attention wandering in the last segment of the film, post the Trinity test, and the inquiry he faced. Laughable, the paranoia about communism in 'murica in that Mccarthy era. But I suppose it was at the height of the "cold war" (younger BMers, ask your grandparents!); the whole "reds under the bed" nonsense. One thing that puzzles me (couldn't be bothered googling it!). Was Oppenheimer's wife in the acting profession? When he's heading off to carry out the actual test explosion, she uses the theatrical "break a leg" expression for wishing him luck

I don't think so but Wiki says she was a piss artist.

I guess when you watch the Snyder cut there is certainly a "what if" scenario at the end that matches the theory.

Interestingly, when I watch a film that gets my attention I'm immersed, but then I saw a review that explained about the framing and looking back I see it, that it's almost ripped from the comics in panelling style.

I have to agree on reflection. And just thinking about that made me reflect on the 'GotG' films and they are the same!

So, did you see a film on its own or were you reminded of the comics?

Ballerina, went into thinking it can’t be as good as John Wick and I was right, however, it was highly enjoyable and some of the deaths were brilliant, I particularly like the flame thrower scenes. Solid 6.5/10 for me.

The Parallax View

Warren Beatty. Directed by Alan J Pakula, and cinematography by Gordon Willis who also did the Godfather movies and many of Woody Allen's best films.

Proper 1970s political paranoia classic.
