Last Film You Saw

Spinal Tap The End

Better than expected, music and all.

Real laugh out loud moments, and off the wall ideas. The cheese and guitar shop, with the chance to barter a guitar for cheese based on weight (or vice versa), and the glue museum.

Cameos by Paul McCartney and Elton John.

Not quite anything as memorable as amplifiers that go up to eleven, but the larger Stonehenge model has its moment in the sun...

How to Blow Up a Pipeline (2022)

pipeline.jpg

With the climate crisis at a dangerous point of no return, a group of brave environmental activists come up with a daring plan to make their voices heard and disrupt an oil pipelne.

One of my top 5 films of the 2020's.

Weapons. 7/10. Quite enjoyed the atmosphere and different perspectives building the Stephen King esque like story. Good horror movie.

Thought I'd watch something before work today and chose something that I kept on my drive, having already watched it a couple of times but refocused on it, knowing there was a Broadway version of it released:

"Goodnight, and Good Luck"

I watched both versions, the 2005 film and 2025 stage play, back to back.

Maybe watching Clooney becoming 'Edward R. Morrow' rather than stick to his original character in 'Fred Friendly' was jarring to me. David Strathairn is WAY the better actor for 'Morrow' in this regard and I have to say the Broadway version of 'Friendly' is played by the better actor in Fleshler. Real 'twixt and 'tween offerings here.

Anyway, I thought it's a film well worth exploring in seeing how journalism has changed. I understand the reason this has been revived and I can see Trump being the main reason being fair, but this was going on way before that as the film shows.

There are some very subtle changes in the Broadway script, adding inconsequential parts for nobody's betterment in one of the cases, but then comes to its full potential right at the very end watching how we got here.

I thought, somewhat, that this film could have been updated to modern times but, I also, know it would have taken a LOT of work to depict the reflection.

With that said the Broadway ending IS powerful, no doubt, and it makes you reflect on where and how we get our information.

I have a really small list of favourite films and I think I have to add this to it for the subject matter and clarity of seeing thing as it is.

Watched Godfather Part II again last Sunday. I realise I really enjoy the Vito Corleone story and find the Michael Corleone story part of the film quite boring.

The goonies.

Probably the best films of the 80s?
Love The Goonies. My son refuses to watch it since I terrorised him when he was little. Found the VHS in a charity shop. He was about 5 and I just had no memory of how people hanging themselves in the first few minutes. He's still not found the courage to watch it past that point.

Fun fact Sean Astin from the Goonies and Lord of the Rings, his dad is Gomez from the original Addams Family

Just watching Grease, while waiting for the Milan vs Napoli game. To be honest, it hasn't aged all that well. It comes across as very kitsch now. But damn; Olivia Newton John. The Susannah Hoffs of the late 70s. It should have been a crime to be that good looking.

It's still a good film to have a sing to as is The Sound of Music which I have just finished watching. The film is 60 years old this year and Julie Andrews is 90 on Wednesday. Wonderful film 10/10.
