Last Film You Saw

Last night and tonight the two Knives Out films.

We thought the first one was brilliant, the second one less so.

I love the first one and really like the second one. The only thing holding the second one back for me is the ending.

I think the first time the ending is 'the twist is that the person you immediately dismissed because they were far too obvious was really the murderer all along!' works really well.

By the time you watch the second one, you're thinking, 'well, there's no way they'd do that twist twice in a row, that would be ridiculous and lazy', so when you find out that the director has in fact done the same twist two movies in a row, it's a bit of a kick in the teeth.

If you outsmart me by making the answer so obvious that I think it can't possibly be the answer, that only counts as a clever move once.

Even after everything in those spoiler tags I still like everything else about Glass Onion very much.

It's A Wonderful Life - Never seen it before, so watched it with my 18yo daughter. Really good, a solid 8.5/10, even though I kept thinking, when will his world actually fall apart.

We made the mistake of watching the new Xmas film 'The Heist Before Christmas' last night. It may well be the worst film I've ever seen.

It's unbelievably mismarketed. The title and adverts makes it seem like a festive family caper that will probably centre around a heist. There is technically a heist in the first few minutes but it all happens off camera.

The only two times the film attempts to make a joke are both Nesbitt getting kicked in the balls.

Otherwise it is an incredibly bleak, dreary and depressing 90-minute piece about poverty, corporal punishment and - by the end - dementia, for some reason.

All the acting is fine, including the two kids who are pretty good. Timothy Spall and James Nesbitt are good too. They aren't to blame.

But I'd rather rewatch Cats than this thing...

The Holdovers - quality movie like they used to make
A Christmas Story - I love it, I love it, I love it (It's like a warm hug)
Die Hard - I fell asleep so will have to try again
A Snail on the tail of a whale & Room on a Broom & Stick Man - excellent in every single way

I know the thread is for films you’ve just seen, rather than you’re about to watch, but thought it worthwhile to note that North by Northwest is on BBC 2 this afternoon (2.10pm).

Lost count of how many times I’ve watched this but I’ll be tuning in again and it’s definitely in my top 5 films.

Its brilliant, unfortunately it came out around the same time as The Raid and didn't get talked about as much.

They need to stop pissing around and hurry up with the tv series that was rumoured.
It was made before the raid but production issues delayed it , unfortunatley it was then compared to or calleed a copy of the raid.

karl Urban a fan of 2000AD was made to play Dredd, shame the tv series has been on hold since covid
