Last Film You Saw

I take it you wont be watching it again then?
I enjoyed that film, The way Elvis was controlled by Parker reminded me of the way Brian Wilson was controlled by his psychiatrist in that film about Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys amazing how some superstars were controlled in their lives.

I always thought John Lennon was controlled by your Yoko Ono after he met her.

The Beach Boys were/are some group, instantly recognisable.

Watched Captain America Brave New World

Not bad, seen worse Marvel films. It's interesting that they finally linked the dead celestial in the Eternals movie to a Phase 5 movie

He was a weirdo long before her

Watched "One of Them Days" earlier.

As a 'typical' Black film, you know what you're gonna get, so I watch very few of them as I get bored of the same type of settings and scenes.
The only enjoyable aspect was an actress I've not seen before, but the end titling gave her the name 'Sza', of whom I had a very vague recollection of.

Turns out she's a singer(but I thought she was the one who never showed face and wore black and white wigs over her eyes?) but, for me anyway, she had a good flow about her, not overly "ghetto" and VERY easy on the eye (all the right curves!).

Googled her and she looks way better now then she did in her peak singing career (whenever that was)!

Anyway, as per the film, it just felt like "Friday" was filmed up the block, but the day was Thursday or Saturday. Meh.

Having thought about it, just now, White comedy has 3 levels; 'trailer', middle class and rich comedy on a regular basis.

Black comedy has 'ghetto' as a regular and, desperately, needs to move forward.

Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke as a dishevelled down at heel private eye, hired by a sinister Robert de Niro to trace a missing washed up crooner in 1950s New York. The body count mounts up as Rourke is plagued by strange satanic visions. A very disturbing film with an unsettling atmosphere and a nod to the Faust legend.

He looked better back then.don’t know why he went all Jackie Stallone.

Rourke was a decent amateur boxer and competed in their Golden Gloves tournament. At the height of his fame he stupidly turned professional. The level went up and he suffered one or two bad beatings. He also took on a cage fighting champion with disastrous results. Bad corrective plastic surgery and heavy cocaine use did the rest. For years he couldn't get insurance in the movie industry.

I think partly this is primarily because Hollywood loves trends. It's like Friday buy a Thursday could be how it was sold :) I also feel like "ghetto" marks something as being a "black" movie. I know Nope isn't a comedy and Peele maybe plays by different rules but that's not considered a "black" movie in my experience. Neither is Creed. My thesis falls down a little with a movie like Sorry to Bother You - I'm not sure I'd call this a "black movie" but I do think it's a movie about blackness. Also Think Like A Man is a black comedy that's not set in the ghetto.

It's not a movie but Abbot Elementary takes a different approach. I may also be misremembering Black-ish as I only saw a couple of episodes but I'm sure there was a theme of not being black enough because they were rich and not in the ghetto.

The world is a little different now but I do remember watching Grays Anatomy and noting how the black characters in there just happened to be black and not much was made of it.

I also remember when Luke Cage hit Netflix. I was a little uncomfortable with the way the characters were speaking and what I suspected was ghetto port. I spoke a little bit about it to a black friend in America to see what she felt about it and she felt it was pretty normal and realistic.

The singer you're thinking of is Sia

I always loved Im Goin To Get You Sucka :)

In the last few days;

The Gorge - looks quite nice but ultimately very average monster movie.

Werewolves - Daft, cheap-looking 80’s-style horror with pretty good special effects that I enjoyed a lot more than The Gorge.

Kraven The Hunter - terrible.

Watched all 3 of the Captain America movies recently. All of them were very good/great.

The newest movie in the franchise will be out shortly - Captain America - Brave New World. BNW has met with mixed pre-reviews... so maybe it's not as good as its predecessors. Nonetheless I plan on watching it in theater later this week.
===
Edit - scratch the plan to watch CA-BNW. Judging by reviews it's a real stinker of a film.
I watched the new Captain America film yesterday and thought it was boring.

To me, the only reason they made it was to set it up for a new Avengers movie.

Heretic with Hugh Grant.

Incredibly interesting for the first half, then dropped off into something quite generic and forgettable toward the end. Three excellent performances though.

Also finally watched The Grand Budapest Hotel which I thought was pretty good, despite me not really clicking with Anderson's style.

Furiosa - a Mad Max Saga
Looks good, but fairly vacuous as a result of the episodic structure. Just about everyone is a wrong 'un, the villain is the only memorable character and Furiosa requires almost no acting apart from glaring a lot.

Captain America - Brave New World
No alien invasion, ties up a few loose ends, introduces New Cap. I tend to avoid finding out what these things are about before watching, and I think it works a lot better that way for this one.
Pleasingly reliant on building the character and relationships.
Also bonus point for not being 2 1/2 hrs long or more.
And minus point for unnecessary destruction of monuments.

Just watched LA Confidential. LA Confidential is the highest rated movie of all according to Rotten Tomatoes: https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/best-movies-of-all-time/

Although I liked LA Confidential - it's nowhere near the best movie ever, at least IMO. An interesting story with great acting - but the plot was a bit too convoluted to follow, real time, although the gist was clear.

8.5/10.

Well I didn't think it counted as a film so to speak but seeing as it seems to be cleaning up at the BAFTAs I'm saying Wallace and Gromit Vengeance Most Fowl was the last film I watched. And I'm absolutely delighted it's winning the awards as it was bloody brilliant!
