Last Film You Saw

Just watched LA Confidential. LA Confidential is the highest rated movie of all according to Rotten Tomatoes: https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/best-movies-of-all-time/

Although I liked LA Confidential - it's nowhere near the best movie ever, at least IMO. An interesting story with great acting - but the plot was a bit too convoluted to follow, real time, although the gist was clear.

8.5/10.
Hahaha, To not have the greatest Movie ever made 'JAWS' in that top 100 tells you what an absolute farce that list is.

I think that ratings are based on opinions of rotten tomatoes viewers/critics.

Agree that Jaws was very good.

And then there's some films that are - IMO - pretty awful that somehow made the top 100 - for example ARGO.

Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke as a dishevelled down at heel private eye, hired by a sinister Robert de Niro to trace a missing washed up crooner in 1950s New York. The body count mounts up as Rourke is plagued by strange satanic visions. A very disturbing film with an unsettling atmosphere and a nod to the Faust legend.
A brilliant movie and has aged remarkably well too. One of the 80's finest.

I stopped being offended by these lists a long time ago. These kind of critic aggregator sites include user ratings and these always demonstrate recency bias and tend to reflect changing tastes. The suggestion that ‘How to Train your Dragon’ (good though it was) is a better movie than ‘White Heat’ or ‘Cabaret’ is pretty absurd and I doubt even Scorsese would argue that The Departed is a better or more important film than The Wild Bunch, say or Red River.

It also explains why some very average works are on there - there’s no way a critic’s top 300 list would include such thoroughly routine flicks as Goldfinger, Ford v Ferrari or the 2009 version of Star Trek particularly given some of the movies not on it and the relatively low placing of undeniable masterpieces like Jaws, or Badlands or The Big Sleep.

The Gorge, not too bad for a lazy sunday evening.

If Catweazle wants to know how to renovate old trafford then he should watch the end of the film and take note.

The Killing of America on Prime. A 1981 documentary that was seemingly controversial at the time for showing uncensored violence.

It's a journey through violence in America primarily since JFK was shot.

I lived in the US for a good many years and never saw an ounce of violence. I wonder if that was because of where I was or when I was there. Things just didn't seem so crazy then.

There's a lot in this show that rings true today it seems. It feels like those lost in America can only take so much before trying to destroy everyone close to them. It feels very it changes over time (protests, riots, crime, snipers, assassinations, serial killers, ... and now politics) but its always a sense of rage by the forgotten.

Definitely recommend seeing it, although very depressing.

No seriously. I found 75% of The Brutalist very good and 25% too much. I found it hard to have sympathy for most of the characters for much of the film but the story was told very well for the most part.

People who think they are elite will always say that the ends justify the means. And they leave a legacy. But ordinary people to them are nothing and they miss out on the ordinary joys of life.

Civil War on amazon prime, Seems quite on point these days as it's about 'Murica. Story told through the eyes of a photojournalist/war photographer, which catches my interest anyway.

Disappointing that it doesn't really delve into the cause of the conflict, other than a passing remark about the Presidents third term....

Well worth a watch imo

Here starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright

Not a bad way to kill an afternoon after last night getting pissed after watching the team bail out so easily
