Last Film You Saw

Interestingly, when I watch a film that gets my attention I'm immersed, but then I saw a review that explained about the framing and looking back I see it, that it's almost ripped from the comics in panelling style.

I have to agree on reflection. And just thinking about that made me reflect on the 'GotG' films and they are the same!

So, did you see a film on its own or were you reminded of the comics?

To be honest its been a long while since i've read a superman comic so Im not really sure on the panelling side of it. Hopefully one of these days I'll get more time to start to read them again.

One review you might appreciate, Im only about 20 mins in ( of 1.5h! ). For those who have not seen the film. this is not a review for you. its very very spoiler heavy. no attempt to even hide anything.

Watched 'A man called Otto' the other night.

Feeble 'woke' attempt at getting a 'Gran Torino' vibe. I wouldn't be surprised if Clint kicked the crap out of Tom Hanks for agreeing to make it.
Blah, blah, blah. I'm a MAGA cultist and 'A man called Otto' struck me as somewhat left-leaning - so I hated it... and did I mention that the film is 'woke'? - whateverthefuck 'woke' means - b/c 'woke' is bad.

Oppenheimer.
Sloooooooow burner, took a while to get going( probably 2 hours) but pretty decent overall.
Murphy was probably chosen for his experience in having a cig in his gob in every scene, even the shagging bits.

Just watched it, thought it was a very powerful film. Dealt with the paranoia over the rise of communism very well.

You yanks really are fucking weird.

Did I say that 'woke' is bad? Like everything, it has it's positives and negatives. Woke'Otto' is approximately 17 different shades of shit bad. Not just because of it's too obvious liberal leanings, but because it's a weak, 25th rate attempt at copying Clint Eastwood's superlative 'Gran Torino' for a less offended audience. It's shit.

I'm honestly starting to think that your US constitution only allows you to bear arms so that you weirdo freaks can shoot yourselves when you get triggered.

It’s actually a copy of a Swedish Film

1917. Sam Mendes film.

Was okayish but on reflection it was overhyped.

The storyline itself was very interesting and the acting was okay/good but I think both would have a whole lot better had they not done it in the "trendy" "single shot" format. I think that utterly ruined the film and I believe took a hell of a lot away from the story it was trying to tell. Mind you I thought pretty much the same about Adolescence... again an interesting and meaningful storyline was lost in the name of trendy art.

This IMO was a bit of a vanity project for Sam Mendez.

I'm assuming the film was wholly based on the stories of a relative of his and he (Sam) seemed to be doing everything else... until I turned the credits off (5/10 seconds later).

We were interested in the story line for family relations reasons but... on the whole, considering the hype it had received I was expecting a great deal more.

Still, you have to watch these things before you can have a true opinion.

Everyone and their Aunt are making reviews of the film (me as well, I suppose) and it's going to depend on the background of the reviewer as in for what reason are they having their positions.

Having seen the film and I have I, specifically, watched or read the reviews from several different positions and I'm finding it's Snyder-verse fans Vs Gunn-verse fans and Right wing Vs Left wing political leanings.

Me? I chose the comic book fan in me as Gunn is probably, and objectively, more into the comic book lore than I since his continued vocation.

Funnily enough, a similar comic book fan/ nerd to me said he thought it was a solid foundation to what comes next, as I did.

So, just make a decision to go or not and don't take on reviews until after, if you do go, is my opinion.

What happened to its a good film because

Or its a bad film because

:-)

Just watched the Long Good Friday brilliant film alongside Get Carter is their better British made gangster films out there.

Fair enough and good review mate, but I kind of disagree with you regarding the single shot Style of filming in a film such as this I very much like it.
I think it makes the film Hard-hitting, immersive, and an impressive technical achievement, captures the trench warfare of World War I with raw and quite startling immediacy.
Overall after watching it I had this immense feeling of the total stupidity of war all those young men not going home to their loved ones and absolute crime of humanity.
