Last Film You Saw

Maybe I'm giving the movie too much credit as I think it is too smart to be peddling a "white people stupid tho" message. The Kermode review kind of illustrates what I mean. Kermode considers himself to be better than the white people portrayed in the movie but is disappointed when it focuses on the small family drama stuff as opposed to the satire and racism. Which is possibly why they keep making fun of Tyler Perry - they aren't making a black film about the black experience BUT making a film about a family that happens to be black. The Stansfield shot at the end is meant to provoke people like me who go "oh that's the guy from Get Out" (who assumes because i watched Get Out and have a black friend that i now understand the black experience) and make it about race when the point is Monk says right at the beginning he doesn't believe in race and he is trying to keep his race as a secondary characteristic even though people keep putting it front and centre. of course there is also the possibility that the film is making a point that despite Monks idealism he can't escape being viewed through a black lens

Got to be honest, it sounds as avoidable as it gets.

Okay, so this Kermode being Kermode. He wants the interesting side of publishing and writing, but that would simply make it even more niche than it was, already!

Mayo, although he says very little, is correct with the way the film played out.

I don't really listen to Kermode too much, these days, as it feels like he's been lost up his pretentious arse for 30 years!

Your take was good enough, especially as Kermode skipped over all the delightful nuances that you picked up on that he couldn't be bothered with.

Juror #2
Eastwood goes a bit lighter for a change, albeit still about a trial for murder.
It's not very heavy though, Toni Colette isn't given much to do, Nicholas Hoult doesn't really convince as the conflicted central character. They're not helped by JK Simmons' supporting character being, well, played by JK Simmons.
Harmless enough, likely to be forgotten by the end of the week.

The F1 Movie.
I think for anyone who isn’t quite in to thr sport, it could get you hooked. As someone who knows a decent bit about the sport, I didn’t feel like it was accurate, and there were a few small bits that weren’t perfect. It’s not meant to appeal to me though - it’s meant to spread F1 to everyone around the world.

If you see it and enjoy it, I’d 100% recommend you watch the netflix series - Drive to Survive. A great way to get into the sport and discover the basics.

Great film

Fantastic Four, I liked it, setting it in the 60s worked well and it was much better than Superman. First decent Marvel film in years. 7.5/10, mid post credit scene worth staying for, the end one isnt

Im 12 minutes into the new superman. Genuinely awful tone so far, its light hearted and so many cringey comedic quips. Exactly what I thought it'd be but thought id give it a chance.

It got a bit better. Hated the comedic tone. I know this one was aimed at kids, and it just wasn't for me. 6/10.

Just back from it and yeah I enjoyed it. That mid credits scene is a nice setup for the next avengers movie.

Still no explanation as to how they're being brought into the MCU universe timeline though
