Rags were playing a Champions League game at home if I'm correct on the following night to mansfield and the media had a dig at our no show compared to the Rags big crowd

Also think the attendance for Huddersfield was only around the 19000 mark.

Not hard to find out but from memory I'm thinking 17,000.

Most home games were between 15,000 & 19,000 in those days. No arguing over how many points you need to buy a Millwall away ticket back then.
It was around 17,000. I was sat right behind Brian Clark from Piccadilly Radio for that game. Rubbing shoulders with the stars once again.

Sat?

What sort of posh fucker sat down in those days?

Edit:

Sorry, started typing before I saw who I was replying to.

As you were GDM.

The 10-1 attendance was 19,583. Our lowest home crowd that season was 16,040 v Hull, and the smallest away crowd was 6,280 at Shrewsbury. There were other crowds below 10,000 at Bournemouth, Barnsley, Huddersfield & Birmingham City. These figures are for the League. We got 8,551 for our League Cup game v Wolves at Maine Road. We only topped 20,000 in nine of our 22 League games.

The Kippax was sparsely populated in those days.

Not going to argue mate as you have clearly done your research but I am sure the 3-0 victory over Millwall had a smaller attendance that season. Sure it was all ticket due to the risk of trouble.

There was definately a crowd of 15,000 for Millwall but the one I'm thinknig of was a few years after the 10-1.

Think it was 4-0 in a night game. We then played them again on the Saturday in the cup, 0-0 and eventually lost after two replays down there.

The 4-0 was the same season as the 10-1 as Paul Stewart scored. The year of the cup replays we were in the Ist Division (Premiership) so the 15k crowd in question could have only been in the 1987/88 season.

I was stood in the Kippax for that Millwall game if it helps boost my working-class credentials.

Is everyone forgetting City 10 Huddlesfield 1
the attendance that night must have been 250K at least
Every blue I've spoken to claims to have been there that night funnily enough though I remember a few empty seats

Ha! Not me! Even though a mate at school offered used to have spare tickets available around that time.... I remember going to both the previous games at home with him, and then skipping this one! Good choice!

To be honest, I struggle to remember what decade certain games were in. Never mind the actual year.

I was stood in my usual place on The Kippax for the 10-1 but sat in The North Stand for the Millwall game. So assumed they must have been different seasons.

Fuck knows what I was doing sat down if The Kippax was still standing then.

No-one tell GDM please.

You're quite right - millwall that season was 15,430.

I stand corrected. the rest is OK, though.

And yet those crowds of 17-19k etc were quite high compared to some others in the country at the time. Leeds often had 11-12k for home games, Chelsea pulled regular crowds of around 8,000 and even a Birmingham derby at Villa Park was played infront of around 11,000 at the time. Football had gone through a truly dark period. Only really the Rags, Everton, Liverpool and Spurs could only get more than 30k on a regular basis. Even Arsenal struggled at times.
