Late night Cafe/Curry place back in the day?

Curry Queen* in Gately because it was walkable from Wythenshawe was defo the first curry house I went in.
6 pints of lager and 6 poppadoms was a popular order in the early days. I guess we then got adventurous and added a bhaji or two.

*apologies if any ex waiters 79 - 86 reading.

Bobs Burger van on Victoria bridge or if you'd copped and she was worth it, The Shah restaurant just a bit further up.
King prawn dhansak was my 'go to' dish at the Shah after a Saturday night on the beer. Those stairs down to the bogs were so steep it was like standing at the top of a ski slope!

Think that's a different one then, I thought you meant the one opposite the shell garage, few doors from the Midland bank, I expect Yip is a common name..!
The one on Hardman lane is definitely owned by a Steve Yip, and has been there since early 70's.
Where did you live in Fw..? I grew up on Mather St, which is where I first knew Barry Foy from.

There was a Chinese on Oldham Road, near to the Dutchbirds pub. It was go to place after a session in the Pack Horse (R.I.P.)
Usual lacist banter from a couple of the lads towards servers, 'Ching chong chow and chips, please' kinda thing ... One week, the lady serving had had enough, and says to one guy who wore glasses 'Oi four glass, no more you barred get out'. She clearly meant to call him 'four eyes', which was hilarious to the rest of us, and to this day, his nickname is still Four Glass. :-)

Golden tandoori Glossop, Abdul in his purple velvet jacket with bow tie ,
And rays bangla in Denton .
Great memories

Spent so much time in the Plaza Cafe.
I remember watching some students order a Charlie's Special and after a couple of mouthfulls, they couldn't eat any more - it was blazing hot. My mate thought he'd play the tough guy and took their bowl. He shovelled it in and then ran into the kitchen with his mouth open under a tap; he looked a right knob!
So many good memories of chatting to late-night Mancunians in various states. So many asleep, face in food, and others shouting 'Charlie' every few minutes. He told me that if he had any trouble, chilli straight in the eyes was his goto solution!
