I mean just the fact that they think the film is called "12 Years of Slave." Gotta be bollocks, surely? Nobody can be that thick.
"Slavery was hard and so is this"
Imagine writing that and thinking it was going to go down well. You have to laugh really.
I didn't so much defend it as dismiss it as a non-issue being made a huge issue off by a man desperate for attention.Rascal, take a look mate at what you've just defended.
The single, biggest pseudo-intellectual argument for the maintenance of the Jim Crow laws wasn't that white people are superior or supreme, it was that white people needed safe spaces from black people who were portrayed as criminals and rapists.
Even today, I still think in proportional terms, the biggest threat to white people from violent crime in the US is from black people. And I think the biggest threat to black people is other black people. I don't think they are workplace specific statistics but already you can see the huge danger of racialising crime and statistics and calling for safe spaces.
I was expecting the usual, 'this is all made-up response/just another Winterval' response which we've already had on this thread but I didn't think anyone would actually defend this.
Like you say, strange hill to die on.
Why would anyone have a problem with any safe spaces for anybody at all. White men traditionally had a safe space called a vault, most pubs had them.So you wouldn't have a problem with a safe space for white people only?
That stat may be wrong actually but it's correct to say that most interracial violence is black on white violence but white on white violence is far more prevalent than black on white violence. Likewise, black on black violence is far more common than white on black violence which reinforces my point more.
Single race spaces are not 'safe spaces'.

Are single sex safe spaces not safe spaces then?
Did you even read my post at all? Why even bother replying if you're going to read "it's fine to set up a safe space" and then decide it means white people can't have a safe space?
Also do you have any figures to back up your opinion that interracial violence is dominate by black on white violence?
Seems like it's a right wing social media conspiracy theory long proven to be bullshit.
Not right-wing conspiracy nonsense at all. You're quoting the homicide rates. See the attached for proof.
Nevertheless, I don't think 'white people' need safe spaces from other races and the primary point is not to do with interracial violence but that, whether you're white, black, or Hispanic, you are more likely to be a victim of somebody of your own race rather than anybody else.
Hence 'safe spaces' on the basis of race is one of the most nonsensical and backward things to be thought of.
If you support these racial 'safe zones', why don't you just come out and say so rather than trying to dance around the facts?

Racism is a personal issue. Sexual harassment the same. If some women wanted a safe space to discuss the #MeToo movement in the context of their own experiences within the work place then providing a safe environment to do so seems perfectly reasonable.I dont see why commercial/work places should have to or feel the need to create a safe space for political chat for anyone?
Now if its a personnel issue then fine, a safe space as in an office where people can discuss confidentially issues they are having but a safe space for a demographic to discuss a political campaign/movement? In work?
Nah.....the world is fucking bonkers.
I agree, why would the chat be political though. We have a safe space for our mental health workshops that is for respite or reflection away from what is being discussed as a lot of what is said can be pretty disturbing. Abuse of any kind can be disturbing and harmful, a place to escape helps people cope.I dont see why commercial/work places should have to or feel the need to create a safe space for political chat for anyone?
