Laurence Fox launches political party

I had never heard of him until that infamous appearance on Question Time, and I haven't really kept up with his shenanigans since, has he really managed to leverage that one viral moment into some kind of ring wing cult figure status?

He's the Daily Heils ultimate wank fantasy.

When dealing with the far or extreme right, they are usually easily identifiable. As soon as they start talking about segregation, ethno-states, racial superiority etc you can basically fuck them off, and remove them from the discussion, as its pretty much universally agreed this is a bad thing.

The issue with the far or extreme left is that when they portray similar ideologies to those of the far/extreme right (horseshoe theory and all that), there isn't a similar point of reference or metric where you can do the same.

This is because the far/extreme left use a playbook that even Stalin would of been proud of, to disguise what is essentially a power grab.
They position themselves as caring using words like diversity, equality etc and when those things are attained move the goalposts to introduce concepts such as equity (fairness), to continue favouriting certain groups.

They achieve this by pitching everything from the viewpoint that everyone falls into 2 categories; you're either oppressed or an oppressor, and then they take it further.

They remove any dissent, disagreement or criticism by labelling those against them as oppressors, and for everyone else create a 'us and them' situation ('if you aren't with us you're against us') to bring them into the fold, or at the least remove any objections.

If you want to see this sort of thing in action just watch the below 3 part youtube documentary on Evergreen State college

I would love to be able to say 'Only in America' or 'The Lunatics have taken over the Asylum'
but its more likely 'Coming soon, to a campus near you'

If you don't see anything in the above vid that concerns you i genuinely despair.

OK, first thing, what the fuck has that got to do with UK left wing politics. The woman in it states it is illiberal, it it is illiberal authoritarianist, but fuck all to do with UK Left wing politics. The "far" left political battleground is class based, it has fuck all to do with race, it is about class. A person who is of any background is already equal if they are working class. The oppressors are the the capitalist class. In that sense then the fight against racism is a class based fight as racism divides the working class and a united working class is the goal of the "far left" as you like to put it. A core tenet of ANTIFA is a united working class, why does ANTIFA get bad press from the likes of Trump, because a united working class is a threat to capitalism.

For revolutionary Marxists, there is an inextricable link between racism and capitalism. Capitalism is dependant on racism as both a source of profiteering, but more importantly as a means to divide and rule. Racism is necessary to drive a wedge between workers who otherwise have everything in common and every reason to ally and organize together, but who are perpetually driven apart to the benefit of the ruling class.

Therefore, any serious discussion about Black liberation has to take up not only a critique of capitalism, but also a credible strategy for ending it. For Marxists, that strategy hinges on the revolutionary potential of a unified, multiracial and multi-ethnic working-class upheaval against capitalism. See, the oppressors are the Capitalists, the oppressed are the Working class.

Anyway what a load of wishy washy liberals get up to in America really has no bearing on UK left wing politics at all. They were touchy feely liberals trying to solve imaginary problems where as the real problem is class.

The horseshoe theory also has the liberal extreme which given the shape of the shoe is directly opposite the contemporary left and right.

Now you may see Stalin as left wing, because he was a product of a left wing revolution, but as soon as he became a totalitarian dictator Stalin was you could argue at both ends of the horseshoe as his approach was as much fascistic as it was Socialist. Totalitarianism and illiberalism are really not that much different I would agree, but you can have illiberal democracy, you cant have totalitarian democracy.

Anyway, whatever point you were trying to make i don't think it worked with me or i missed the point you were trying to make and maybe you could expand further on it. If you think it is about culture and the ongoing culture wars, then i would state this is a right wing phenomnem, they are pushing back because the liberals gained ground in the battle for culture over the last 50 years and people like Fox and Farage want to live in the 1950s where it was safe to hold views that are now seen by most as obnoxious.

Me too. I believe he’s an actor and a singer, his work must have been drying up at the time. He wasn’t a happy man. He came across as someone who was having a bit of a breakdown.
