She works for the communists at the BBC, so don't say that too loudly.
don't think it matters too much who she works for those people abusing her are pure scum,i can more or less forgive the thick **** in the burka because it s so easy to say anything hiding behind a veil, its like me being able to call you lot a set of wankers, there you go easy! but the dude poking his finger in her face being aggressive towards a lady isn't my idea of how to treat a girl, forgive me for being old fashioned

Has anyone spared a thought for the staff at Harrod's who had to routinely serve former Third World Tyrants as a matter of course in the post-war years?

But serve they did my blue brother without any of this fuss

The lad should have been sacked.

Got as far as this and yup, he should have been sacked, end of.

He is there to provide customer service, not make a political statement.

-- Thu Sep 19, 2013 9:01 am --

Do they still open up especially for you mate so that you're not having to mix with the general public?

Interesting one, this.

At what point do you sacrifice your own morality for your job. Selfridges policy may be to serve anyone, regardless of political persuasion but if it goes against your own ideals, when do you refuse to do so?

It kinda reminds me of that experiment in the US. Where a "Dr" asked an individual to turn up the electricity to a man strapped into an electric chair. When asked to turn it up to the voltage that would kill a person, a scary amount of the experiment subjects did so.

Do we compromise our own beliefs because we are told so.

If the employee in this case knew the consequences and is willing to face them, fair play I think.

I think its troublesome how many people would be willing to do just as they are told.

However, if framed in a different context, does it become more palatable to stand up for your beliefs?

For example, I bet most saying he should just do his job would say the opposite in the context of, for example bankers

Yes, but I have to stand down if the Queen wants to pop in for some new shoes.

I think that's a different issue though. It's one thing to refuse to do something that's against your principles, it quite another to refuse to provide a service to someone because you don't like their opinions on something, and even moreso to refuse to serve someone because they happen to be with someone whose opinions you don't like.

It's the "fuck off" bit that should have seen him lose his job. I have no problem with him refusing to serve the EDL leader and his mate, but there's a way of doing it that protects the interests of the business as well as his morals.

But you can't be telling customers to "fuck off", regardless of the reason, and he'd have been sacked for it in any other situation. Selfridges have clearly gone easy on him purely because they can't be arsed dealing with the shitstorm that would follow if they implemented their own guidelines.

Do we know he told him to fuck off or are we relying on honest Tommy's word for that?

I'm not suggesting the whole thing never happened but I'm in agreement with the fella who said it all seems to have fallen a bit too easily into place for Tommy's agenda for it to be taken at face value without question.
