League Cup Final - Post Match Thread

Thanks for this, so blues take the tinted specs off and watch how that plays out. Ball in the air, defender staring at the ball and watch Agueros eyes, he isn't even watching the flight of the ball, doesn't care where it is. He sees the defenders turns to the side and puts his shoulder in his back. Knew it would put him off and ultimately did. Very clever play and I am certainly not complaining at all I just think with the media narrative being Arsenals weak performance then we all cling to that. If you are running backwards and someone turns into your back it will knock you off balance nothing to do with strength. Where he went wrong was not playing to the whistle and try and get back.
Not sure I agree with that. Aguero's very slight move towards Mustafi could be seen as self preservation. As you say, he has both the ball and player in view, Mustafi only has eyes for the ball. Aguero probably feels hes going to be barged over if he just stands his ground, so he makes the slightest move towards the player - nothing like the movement Mustafi is making towards him.

What you seem to be saying is that Aguero's tiny movement towards Mustafi is somehow responsible for foul play, but Mustafi's movement towards Aguero is blameless because he has no awareness of Aguero's position?

If as Mustafi thinks that was a foul, then very time two players come together, the ref would have to blow for a foul, there would be like 60+ fouls in every game. So no Sergio was just stronger than Mustafi and he was watching the flight of the ball and only checked to see where Mustafi was, before he went back to watch the flight of the ball over Mustafi's head and ran on to score the goal.
As for the 2nd goal which Wiltshire said was offside, yes Sane was offside when the shot came in from the edge of the box, but sane was not interfering with the play, or the flight of the ball, as Ospina was diving in the direction of the shot , that was until Vinny diverted it back into the centre of the goal, so it was a good goal. As for Wiltshire saying we were rough with our tackling. All I've got to say is go back to the semi-final of last year when the Arsenal players kicked and fouled David Silva out of the game in the 1st half, plus had a good goal disallowed.

I see we pocketed just £100000 prize money for winning on Sunday. Losers £50000 and the two losing semi finalists £25000 each. Nobody else gets a penny from the earlier rounds.

I bet Carabao are paying the Football League five times all of that to sponsor the competition.
Carabao are actually paing the EFL thirty times the prize fund not five. It's an £18m three year deal with total prize funding over three years of 600K so the EFL wil be pocketing £17.4m. To be honest, the prem teams get enough of the cake already so I've no problem with £17m going to the 72 lower league teams.

How you've watched that gif and come to that conclusion absolutely baffles me. Did you really watch it?

Aguero is watchign the ball for 90% of the time the ball is in the air, he only takes a second to look at the defender, because that's what strikers do. You check where your marker is.

Also, Aguero doesn't put a shoulder "in his back", he bumps him with his hip, slightly.

Mustafi is pathetic, which is why so many people have said exactly that. Not only is he completely oblivious to Aguero, when he should have had a glance or two to see him, he's then unprepared for contract because he's in the dark, and so just the slightest nudge from a player much smaller than him, not only lets Aguero win the ball, but takes Mustafi out of the game completely.

He went wrong 10 times before he even appealed to the referee.

That's my point, he was clever and knew what he was doing. Wouldn't say Mustafi was naïve I just think he had no awareness of what was round him. Bottom line is for me if Aguero doesn't nudge him then he wins the ball. People can view it differently that's fine but for anyone to suggest Aguero was fouled need to have serious words with themselves.
The player backed into Aguero.... watch it again in real time from the side... superb goal end of

Genuine question - have you ever played football at even a half decent level?
