League Cup Newcastle '76

Was only watching the highlights this morning , didnt make the original game because we could only get one ticket and we needed three(it used to be difficult to get League Cup Final tickets:) , so ended up watching on the telly , what a great day , the highlights i watched earlier brought back some nice memories. Dennis's overhead kick has gone down in folklore ,and when you talk about our greatest players Tueart is up there with the best of them.
Was in the City shop last year with my 10 year old and we were queuing at the tills behind Dennis Tueart, told my lad this was the guy who scored the overhead kick winner when I was at Wembley with my dad. Had a chat with Dennis, lovely bloke, and he said to my son and me, come with me, and he took my lad to the picture of him on the wall outside of the ground scoring the overhead winner so we could get a pic of him with Dennis in front of it. Never asked he just offered. He was at the shop to buy shirts for disadvantaged City fans for a charity he supported. Lovely that he does stuff like that. Great man

Did he speak 'in the 3rd person' (like Ibrahimovic does nowadays) ?
He used to do that - "Dennis would like another cup of coffee", for example.
Great player and one of my heroes but that came as a bit of a disappointment when I met him years ago. Never meet your heroes etc etc. Still an all time City great though.

Met him a couple of times over the years always found him open & friendly.

The first time was just after the final on a Junior Blues open day at Maine Rd. He was sat in a room with the trophy, which was supposed to be lust looked at, all the other kids cleared off as the idea was mini tours with a guide, I stayed chatting to him with the idea to carry on with the next tour 10 mins later, couldn't believe it when he passed me the trophy to hold.

Top guy.

That reminds me of when I took my son on the Maine Road tour just after we'd won the 2nd Division under Keegan. There was us, another couple with a kid and a large school party at the same time as us & the schoolkids were mainly pissing about & getting on the tour guide's nerves. The tour culminated with a "look but better not touch" visit to view the trophy. The guide whispered to me "hang back after that lot have gone". Once the school party had left he invited us & the other couple to hold the famous old trophy & have photos taken. In fact he even took the photos, which have hung proudly on my dining room wall ever since. Little did we know then what trophies were to follow !

No he was just really pleasant and down to earth. Clearly took to Manchester and City, and City fans

I remember seeing him at a junior blues meeting and begging him not to join NY Cosmos. He still joined them
