Leaving out Elano

Having a Brazilian name doesn't mean you get picked automatically! he's been shit for 12 months now and if his attitude is as bad as they say we should get rid!

Absolute bollocks myth which is posted by all the anti-Elano sheep.

Its no more bollocks than the myth that Elano is an all singing all dancing answer to every problem from Citys midfield to global warming.

Try doing the hard yards in training and showing more that you have in games and you'll get picked and stay picked. Its a f*****g simple formula thats worked at football clubs for 100s of years.

I cant believe people are coming on here slagging off the player who has been our most creative player in the past 18 months. Yes he has his off days and can go missing for periods of the game but is there anyone out there who seriously thinks we should get rid of him and resort to the headless chicken in Fernandes or Hamman who we all see against the Rags is too old and too slow or Vassell. Every week he gets a shirt and cant do anything with it, running around and working hard is taking us back to Dicky. At least Dicky scored once in a while, Vass 1 all season I think against Midgetland, or the Faroes. Elano can see a pass can create and score (4th highest this season). Elano must stay and be played if he and the manager cant work together change the manager.

Oh shut the fuck up, you're not even replying to what I wrote.

If the bellend Hughes actually gave Elano a run of more than 1 game in the team then he might be able to find some form. Donkeys like Benjani and Vassell get 5 games in a row to display their absolute shitness.

Elano was awesome against WHU at home, scores 2 goals then MH immediately dropped him. Tell me that's fucking great management from the Welsh wanker???

what was elano's "tantrum" against santander? i didnt manage to see that game what did he do?

'Elano has been shit for 12 months' is the biggest myth in football today. Check the records and see what he brings to the team.

As much as I like Elano and players tht play in his style, I cannot agree that he has been anything other thn poor for the last 12 months.

I'm not interested in statistics about goals, they are just a side product. I want him in the team to create and dictate the tempo of the game.

He has failed to do this imo. He gives away possession far too much and is attempting the Hollywood ball far too often. This might be eyecatching but I honestly believes that those who defend him are falling into the 'Beckham syndrome'. Ie: 5 or 6 attempts to get a pass to do something spectacular which give the ball away, yet when one succeeds in finding its target all the others are forgoten.

If Elano was playing like he was in Aug to Oct 07 then he would be the first name on my teamsheet each time.

Players like him are my favorite type of player. However, I refuse to make excuses for him just because I like the way he plays the game when on form. I play players like him to run the game, provide tempo and to provide creativity. He has not been doing this, regardless of how many goals he has or hasn't scored. Goals do not justify a starting place and Frank Lampard, who scores loads more from a similar position, would not get a game for his team if his all round game was not up to scratch.

Possession is the key to all good teams. Elano has constantly wasted it in the past 12 months.

I could talk about his lack of interest in certain games too, but, although it has been criminal, that is a secondary reason.

Edit: By the way, none of that means I am pro Hughes. It's not one or the other for me. Both have been unprofessional and well below what I expect from them. Both are negative influences on the general moral and atmosphere in the camp, imo. And both should go for the general good of the club, imo

And before anyone jumps in with the 'he's still better than Vassell' line, don't bother.

Its not as simple as that and different players are played to offer different things.

And, regardless of that, just because you may think Vassell has been poor it doesn't make an iota of difference as to how you should judge Elano's performance.

MH is a purely autocratic leader. He is on the far left of this picture. Elano needs a participative or delegative leader, far right. Because Hughes cannot change his style (situational leadership) he cannot manage flair players and eventually will alienate all of them.

elano had that management last year, and after a good start was pretty ordinary from jan onwards.

This simply isn't true and exposes your post for the rubbish it is. To suggest that he gives the ball away 5-6 times for every successful pass is absolute nonsense. His pass stats were among the top 10 midfielders in the league last season.

Kompany gave the ball away 6 times on his debut and still often does but he doesn't get slagged because people aren't waiting to pounce on him like they love to do with Elano.

Elano has an 80% pass success rate. It is simply another myth to suggest he only gets one right every 5 or 6 attempts. I'll check later but my guess is that elano's 80% is higher than ireland, swp and kompany.

As for creativity and influence he was involved in 39% of our goals last season. A higher percentage than all but 3 in the league. Didnt see the santander game but he was involved in EVERY one of our goal scoring chances against Everton.

If I had suggested that he gve away 5 or 6 passes for every successful one then it might be justified to suggest I am an idiot for doing so.

As I didn't though, I'll let neutral observers judge who is posting "rubbish".

In response to moomba's point, lets agree to disagree here. If you have stats showing that Elano keeps possession at a higher rate than most then I won't dispute them. However, as you know, there is a huge difference between keeping possession in dangerous areas and keeping possession with ineffective passes. My suggestion is that his creative side has been poor.

I have no idea how many goals he has been involved in nd have no reason to doubt your stats. However, neither you or I judge footballers on their statistics and we both go on the intangibles that cannot be measured and are much more important. This is no doubt where we disagree and are unlikely to come to an agreement.

To see the ammount of posts show how many city fans want Elano to stay and to be part of the setup here. I have no problem with Hughes exersising his authority but I cannot agree with playing Vassel over Elano. At some point common sense must prevail and his passing/shooting/crossing/free kicks etc utilsed. We don't all have to be best buddy's at work, we are the sum total of all are different parts!!!

Despite this the MEN seems to suggest he is gone in Jan......shame for city fans, elano and hughes I feel!

Yea, all this slaggin off Elano the gr8 is sick. He was the best we had last season w/Petrov. Now, everyone jumps on him since we have a moron 4 a manager who doesn't know how to use him?!

That wasn't exactly what I was saying............

I just don't want Elano to leave because of a personality clash..........

I'd say a pretty good return.

Intangibles are more important than goals, contribution to goals and passing???
