Led Zeppelin

Not Zep, but...

I've just come in from a concert at Warrington's Parr Hall.

Saving Grace, and the name of one of their singers is.... Robert Plant. They were SUPERB. Not a second of Zep or Plant solo output. Just reworkings of 60/70/80 year old folk/blues/Americana. I have no interest in those genres, but I went with an open mind. BRILLIANT. Plant oozes stage presence and still holds a tune brilliantly. "His" band were fantastic, too. A GREAT night.

If they're local to you, go and see them. You won't be disappointed
December 9 – Dorking, England
December 10 – Ipswich, England
December 13 – Warrington, England
December 14 – Chesterfield, England
December 16 – Birmingham, England
December 17 – Monmouth, Wales
December 20 – Cheltenham, England
December 21 – Aberystwyth, Wales
You will when you all come down with the virus.

I saw them in Edinburgh at the Kings Theatre (the only rock concert that venerable old theatre has ever hosted before or since). that would be January 1973. Their sound system was far too powerful for the venue and I swear it permanently damaged my hearing. When Bonzo kicked off Rock n Roll with his drum solo I thought someone was kicking me in the head.
notwithstanding that it was a great concert with Plant in stonking form.

There are some amazing bootlegs from that 1973 UK tour with Southamption and Stoke being so good they could be Officially released. Check this guys blog out he's got some fantastic Zep shows on there.

i was talking about the fishing possibilities ,not gandalf :)
Sea trout, brown trout, loach, eels and stuff in the Mawdach, I think there are salmon but nothing like the 60's/70's, bass in the estuary / tidal reaches, tope in the bay, usual inshore fish just off the coast. Loads of jellyfish, 2 pods of dolphins.

He or his family have a place about 20 minutes away from there where Zeppelin wrote 2 albums, not sure which ones but I'm someone out there will know
Bron Y Aur.... Machynlleth...The story goes that Plants family owned it...Not sure about that though. I went to go looking for it last year, but my dog had a seizure in the town so we called it off. It's a private property but easy to find. Think it was just Zep 3, can't remember.
Plant and Page used to book themselves into the local pub for the night so they could have a bath. There was no gas or electricity at the place.

That's ringing bells....I'm not sure but I think it was a rental property. Now looks like it's back in private use

Plant talked of going there when he was younger, so not sure if his family used to rent it or own it.
I know he owned and lived in a house in the area...It's his spiritual home, especially Borth beach. I spend a lot of time round those parts and it's infested with Brummies...Especially Barmouth and Fairbourne..

I think it's because it's the nicest place by the sea if you travel in a roughly straight line out of Birmingham....I can just imagine them going on their hols and frothing at the mouth once they get past Oswestry.... The only reason they tend to go back is because they miss the Grorty Dick and Faggots and Peas...There'd be more of them if it wasn't for Laverbread...
BTW, You're not the manager of the Groes Inn just outside Conway are you? Top bloke, Top blue, if you ever call in there.

No, Close to Barmouth/Fairbourne. That's the reason there are so many Brummies here, they set off from Brum, drive straight west and stop at the sea, get a tattoo and buy a house. Laverbread and cockles is more Sth Wales.

First and foremost many thanks for the video of Plant and Johnson I'd not seen it. Unfortunately there's only a few clips with Plant but a full 17 mins with Nick Mason in another episode. In one of the clips Plant said that after a hectic USA tour they retreated to the place you mention to write Led Zep 3 and he said thats why it's more folk orientated than 1 and 2 because of the Welsh surroundings. So I assume that would have been May 1970 as they toured Europe Early 1970 and then went to the USA in late March 1970 until late April 1970. They had May off before they did some Festivals in June and some European shows in July 1970 and then didn't return to the States until the middle of August and finished in the middle of September with LZ3 being released in October 1970 I don't know which other LZ lp was written in those surroundings however LZ 4 has numerous acoustic tracks so maybe that was wriiten there as well but thats just a guess by me.
