Led Zeppelin

Fabulous studio band. The likes of Levee, Stairway and so many others are beyond reproach. But dear me, as a live band they were chronically underpowered and so weak.
Remember the first time I heard / saw Song Remains, was so underwhelmed. Stairway was a shadow of its studio version and the live solo wasn’t anywhere near. Think about the number of guitar overdubs on Achilles Last Stand. How on earth could he/they expect to reproduce anything like that live? So for me, wonderful group, but don’t miss them live at all.

The live appearence on Danish TV in 1969 is incredibly powerful

The How the West Was Won live album is very good too

As a student in the early eighties I worked a summer job in a motorway services, met Robert Plant one day when he came in for dinner, was a lovely chap - chatted to me whilst eating and signed an autograph, looking back I’d have told the younger me to fuck off! Jill from crossroads on the other hand was a twat…
Should've got a photo of Robert and Jill; seeing them having dinner together must have been quite novel.

I'm too young to have seen Zeppelin live (although I did see Page & Plant) but by all accounts The Song Remains The Same fails to catch them at their best live. They certainly have a reputation for being a great live act and some of the other bits that are available do support that. Anyway, it's all immaterial now...

should make clear it was two separate occasions ;) Though in Bobbies case, one thing struck me was he was on his own, no hangers on. Although he was wearing a knitted jumper that said “Pictures at Eleven” on the front - a bit of self advertising

I was never much into Zep but used to have iv on cassette and still own Houses of the Holy on vinyl.
As musicians they were awesome and Stairway to Heaven an all time classic. I do love “Over the hills and far away” from Houses.
At one point Page was doing Demos with Chris Squire and Alan White from Yes under the XYZ moniker. I think the expectation was that Plant would join later but he didn’t.
Rough demos are on YouTube and the Yes track Mind drive is centred around one such demo.
Page and Squire together would have been ridiculous.
