Leeds (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Unprofessional...79% possession 17 v 4 shots, 10 v 1 corner. Aye, so, so unprofessional
Those stats couldn't be anymore irrelevant to the point tbh.

Anyhow a momentary lapse in my pledge not to get wound up this season. 3 points is 3 points onwards and upwards.

Those stupid errors did fuck up my kdb assist bet and super 6 score of 3 0. But no worries I am calm:-)

I’m not entirely convinced that we needed the second half to be a thing of control/preserving energy given we had 5/6 key players off the pitch and rested already. If we’d have got another then we could’ve subbed KDB and Haaland too.

Second half was shite but that first half was something else. Everything was done at 100mph, the Leeds players didn’t know what had hit them. If Haaland didn’t have an off day then it could’ve been 6/7-0.

Main thing is the win.

To me at least, there seems to be a shift in mindset from some blues from enjoying performances and winning results—especially as we continue to compete for nearly everything these is to win—to an unhealthy (for them and the club) and unreasonable demand for absolute domination in every minute of every match.

If we aren’t dominating for 100% of the match, conceding not a single chance to the opposition, and putting 5 or 6 past whichever poor side turns up on the day, many seem to think we’ve been “unprofessional” or a “disgrace”.

And they trot out claims that Pep being frustrated or annoyed with the play and/or players is evidence that this is the correct perspective. Which is just plain wrong, as it is Pep’s mindset and job to never be fully happy during a season, no matter how well we played and how fully the score line reflects it. He is meant to always be asking for more and demanding perfection. The fans don’t have the same need or mandate.

I mean, we quite literally dominated the match for all but ~60 seconds (the total time for their headed chance and later goal), missing about 8 big chances to score—as it was one of those days that happen every now and then—and many on here are posting like we not only lost but were laughably amateur and let the fans down in doing so.

It’s just beyond my comprehension to see that shift and it is worrying, given this sort of arrogance and delusional thinking is the trademark of the supporters down the road.

As I said earlier in the thread, it is amazing how conceding a single goal changes the entire perception of a performance (and the players!) for some blues.
There was a significant fall off in terms of control in the 2nd half. A better team than Leeds would have punished us perhaps . Maybe it was intentional energy conservation or further evidence of fatigue who knows. It is a disgrace to call it a disgrace but it was sloppy and the day ended with a bout of unnecessary squeaky bum time.

Could he be the new Fabian Delph; a player who looked out of his depth but gave us a few good seasons?
Delph was brilliant for us in the Centurions season!

He played left back more than any player that season, in the greatest league season by any team in English football history.

He barely put a foot wrong all season. The only two I can remember was a lapse in concentration at Old Trafford when Rashford equalised and at Huddersfield when they scored.

For Phillips to be the new Fabian Delph, he’s going to have to step up massively in the next couple of seasons.

watching recents games and in particular Kyle looking clueless with the ball made me think about who i‘m most confident in when they have the ball:

totally: Kev, jack, Gundo, bernie, stones, Lewis (already!) laporte, ake, Akanji, rodders
fine: Dias, Eddie (maybe harsh but only because the jeopardy level if he cocks up makes me squirm), ortega, Harland, Foden, mahrez, Alvarez(but it’s coming)
hmm: Walker, Phillips, Gomez

in short that looks like a squad totally at ease on the ball.

Lewis was brilliant, great control, and always looking to go forward or pass forward. I'd got no problem with Gundogan taking the penalty (Haaland's only scored one of his last two!) and if VAR did its job it would have been retaken (defender had his foot on the line of the D and the line is in the penalty area).
