Leeds (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

There was a significant fall off in terms of control in the 2nd half. A better team than Leeds would have punished us perhaps . Maybe it was intentional energy conservation or further evidence of fatigue who knows. It is a disgrace to call it a disgrace but it was sloppy and the day ended with a bout of unnecessary squeaky bum time.

If we had been playing a better team, we would have stepped up the pace.
Exactly this. There is a reason for how we were playing in the second half. I think many simplify their assessment of performance too far, losing all context and acknowledgement that we would play differently if the circumstances were different.

Also, I don’t understand this assertion:

How exactly would a better team have punish us? We dominated for all but 60 seconds of the match when Leeds had to separate chances, the second of which they scored (which it self was a bit of a fluke goal).

I saw a few saying “can I say ‘one shot, one goal now’ in response to us conceding, despite the fact that it was the second shot, Eddie made a smart save to keep out the first shot, and there was really very little Eddie could have done with their goal.

As I said before, conceding one goal seems to skew reality for many blues out of all proportion. It shifts the performance in to a fantasy realm where we were “shite” or “unprofessional” or a “disgrace”.

I just don’t understand it.

I think it’s the “we should be [insert unreasonable expectation]” statements along with the angry posts that worry me.

That is the exact behaviour we have been mocking the red lots for decades. They often scream entitlement and loss of perspective.

Just seems like we may be very slowly turning in to a version of the fan base we have detested for generations (and I don’t mean new fans that may only be jumping on the bandwagon; I mean long suffering blues seemingly turning to the dark side).

But perhaps I just have lower expectations and am happy to be winning and fighting for the treble and won’t be absolutely devastated and furious if it doesn’t happen (though, right now, I reckon it will).

TBF, it's probably a minority.

I've sat with a fairly consistent set of neighbours at City for nearly 30 years and the attitude among them (us) has not changed.

Eddie had f'all hope of saving the Leeds' goal and even less of preventing Fulham's goal last week.

I am glad to hear that.

I am admittedly now far removed from my days in the stands so most of my exposure of what fans think is from Twitter, Reddit, YouTube channels, and Bluemoon.

And online discussion—even if it is just to sign on to post after you’ve gotten back from the match—lends itself to hyperbole and overreaction.
