There was a significant fall off in terms of control in the 2nd half. A better team than Leeds would have punished us perhaps . Maybe it was intentional energy conservation or further evidence of fatigue who knows. It is a disgrace to call it a disgrace but it was sloppy and the day ended with a bout of unnecessary squeaky bum time.
Exactly this. There is a reason for how we were playing in the second half. I think many simplify their assessment of performance too far, losing all context and acknowledgement that we would play differently if the circumstances were different. If we had been playing a better team, we would have stepped up the pace.
Also, I don’t understand this assertion:
A better team than Leeds would have punished us perhaps.
How exactly would a better team have punish us? We dominated for all but 60 seconds of the match when Leeds had to separate chances, the second of which they scored (which it self was a bit of a fluke goal).
I saw a few saying “can I say ‘one shot, one goal now’ in response to us conceding, despite the fact that it was the second shot, Eddie made a smart save to keep out the first shot, and there was really very little Eddie could have done with their goal.
As I said before, conceding one goal seems to skew reality for many blues out of all proportion. It shifts the performance in to a fantasy realm where we were “shite” or “unprofessional” or a “disgrace”.
I just don’t understand it.
