Leeds (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

2-0 is fine I agree, so long as it stays 2-0.

It didn't they scored, as is always possible, they didn't deserve a goal either, and as I said, it should have been 5 or 6 by then.

I thought we were far to casual in the second half, and it wasn't anything to do with the game on Tuesday night either, as many of them won't be starting in that game.

They score one rather fortunate goal and we closed the game out rather easily thereafter.

I don't think city were casual but they definitely go into energy conservaton mode where they can and also avoid risk as much as they can.

Whether the game was a bit too easy due to Leeds being fairly passive and City felt too able to take their feet off the gas is an open question.

Has anyone else heard the rumours recently that Pete the badge had passed away?
I had, cant quite recall where i had read it, but was then pleasantly surprised to say hello to him outside yesterday.

Hadn't heard such rumours but I saw him outside the ground yesterday as I did at a very recent game.

Strange take, that is. Who gives a fuck? Game is won, get off and move on to next one. Love to know what you’d say if we took a proper corner and they broke away and scored an equaliser, lol.

Yeah. Running the clock down in the corner was exactly the right thing to do.

Every game is a cup final at the moment!

The difference from 2 seasons ago,is we lost home games to Leeds and Chelsea on our run to the UCL final, also lost to Chelsea in the FA semi if I remember correctly, that year.

Jack Grealish, right, sucking the footballing life force out of Erling Haaland, left.

To be fair, if Gundogan had scored, the narrative would have been eaxactly that. ‘Well done Erling, how unselfish was he thinking of his team mate rather than his own goal scoring glory’. I had a bad feeling seeing Gundogan address the ball. I don’t like it when they don’t take a proper run up, always makes me uneasy.

On to the game in general, we hammered them, Erling could have hit 40 yesterday, so unlucky. We controlled the game despite a couple of players having ‘iffy’ performances. Just the penalty debacle and Leeds scoring created an unnecessary 5 minute panic. I didn’t see anything from Leeds that suggested they can get out of relegation to be honest, but a few of our key players got a well needed rest.

I fear for Kalvins future however, not getting a run out against his old club. A big red flag for him I think.

But you see there you have it. What would a fair score have been against Forest? Honestly and equitably? I think that's why Pep was raging. Don't do it twice. Don't even take the risk.
Give the opposition nothing. And if Erling had taken it and missed, I believe strongly that it would have been less unsettling to the team than what happened. As I've argued above (#275), it was changing the norm that wasn't a good idea, whatever the outcome. I'd imagine that would have been Pep's point.
Anyway, heigh-ho, for today I'm a Geordie, stripped to the waist and giving it the big one in an incomprehensible accent that sticks diphthongs in where there are none, with a bottle of Newky Brown in hand…

“Thou shall have a fishy on a little dishy…”

Times are changing. Was in Costa before the match. Two separate dads with sons got chatting. All from Ireland. Both sons in full City colours; both dads not City fans, one was an United fan and bemoaning having to go to the Etihad.the youth of Ireland have seen the light!

Was that when Fat Sam took his blazer off in injury time ?
We were worried in the away end, thinking he was going to do a strip tease in an effort to distract Haaland. Mind you, 'side before self' and all that.

Was surprised just how poor Leeds were really. Very passive. Expected them to be a bit more physical and in our faces. Probably about as easy a 2-1 that can be. Should really have been 4 or 5 at least.
While you did seem nervy and error-prone when we pressed and harried you, we would never have been able to sustain it and it would have opened things up. Indeed, when we tried to block you off from midfield after your two goals, this brought Haaland more into it and he started to get more chances.

Personally, I would have gone for an even more passive approach than Sam did, with lone striker stood upfront, three in midfield and six behind the ball, with the possibility of a counter. My interpretation of your two goals is very simply that in each case our midfielders failed to come out and check your player before he took the shot. Had they been more organised in that respect and had we maintained the low block, it might well have ended 0-0 or even a lucky 1-0 for us.

But I accept the right team won.

No, to be honest you didn't give us a fright. It was a bit more uncomfortable I agree, but not a fright. You got a flukey goal from our sloppy play and after that goal I don't recall - though correct me if I'm wrong - you having another sniff of a chance. The game was managed after your goal pretty well by us. We were our own worst enemy for having that situation at the end, it wasn't anything Leeds did.

I'd be more concerned about comments saying that performance gives Leeds hope. IMHO I thought Leeds were a disorganised bunch who offered next to nothing, much worse than West Ham last Weds night. On yesterdays showing and with the games you have left, you're in real danger of going down.

Well, we all have our opinion. You know mine, and now I know yours. I was in the stadium and I am pretty ruthless about my own club and will call it as I see it, whether good, bad or indifferent. You deserved the win but we had you rattled at the end - is what I saw.

If we go down, we will deserve it and I will have no complaints. Three clubs have to be relegated and these things work in cycles. I've been around a long time and I'm philosophical about it all. The main thing is that the club will continue in existence. If that's the case - and I have no reason to believe otherwise - then we're still here and that's the main thing.
