Leeds (H) | Post Match Thread

That's pretty much what rag fans were saying about us in April 2012... when there were six matches left, and they were 8 points ahead of us.

It ain't over until it's mathematically over.

True it's not over until it's over but in 2012 we were actually the best team in the league and we are now, even more so. What's very different is how many trophies we are chasing and how difficult that is to negotiate.

It could all go to pot or we could win the lot; the most likely outcome is somewhere in the middle.

A bit of a wake-up call for us.

My wife commented that we should leave the silver polish in the cupboard for a few more days. After following the blues for over 60 years she is allowed to be pessimistic at times.

Just a thought - given we have a propensity to miss tens of chances in each game and key players were rested, and Sergio is injured yet again, why doesn't Pep put Delap in the squad and on the bench? Just having a striker available gives some options.

We're Man City we fight to the end. The Boys in Blue never give in and they won't give in over the next few weeks either. There's even a 'banner' (or whatever those things are hiding all our seats) saying WE FIGHT TO THE END.

Don't despair, just keep the faith. (Sorry to be a Pollyanna but it's City lads and lassies, it's City our heroes). :-)
And I thought I was the optimist.

There is a lot of blues in fighting due to is the league won or not.

Satististically of course it’s not. But if statistics are the starting point then it’s valid to look at the probability too. Objectively it’s over 99% that City win the league and obviously that leaves 1% that City don’t.

So the guys saying it’s not over are correct.

However those that are saying it’s virtually won are by the same statistical criteria also correct.

It‘s not arrogant to say the second point as it’s objectively true and something we would say if another club were this far ahead in all probability.

The disagreement comes from a fear of being laughed at either way IMHO.It doesn’t matter because what anyone believes will not affect the eventual outcome.

We haven’t won the league yet but its very likely we will. That’s it. Some people will enjoy the ride others won’t and neither is wrong because people are different.

Found this picture on twitter, the lines might not be completely right, but it’s baffling they didn’t check this
I remember doing one by eye for one of our goals that looked offside and someone on here said if you take the lines of the pitch and create a straight line out to the horizon and find the point of convergence(I think). Then you should be able to use that point as guide to find the correct angle for the offside line.

I've had a go myself just now but it's not perfect(the halfway line seems not straight in this pic):

City vs Leeds Offside Line.png
I'm pretty sure he is offside regardless of how accurate my attempt is. Using the angle from the half way line, he might just be level with Zinchenko or CMs offside at best but he's a few yards in front of that point. The angle can only be steeper than it is at the half way line, which can only move the line further away from Zinchenko(hopefully that makes sense haha).

It was extremely frustrating today and naive to lose, a draw would have been a shame but one of those days. You dont lose those.

However I remain with full faith that we’ll carry on to win the league and hopefully this is a shot across the bows to fix up for the rest of the season and the cup comps.

I think some of us have forgotten how good we have it and losing one game however badly we lose is not the end of the world.

Football is at times random and without logic. We cant win every game even though logically with our players we should.

Grow up, let it go, move on to Wednesday.
You are much too rational to be a typical football supporter. And good for you!

So by that logic a team can only deserve to win... if they win. I think that’s ridiculous. We deserved to win. Pep put out a team that rested 7 key players yet still dominated, only conceded 2 shots all game, had 29 shots, and the expected goals on all those chances was around 2.3 - 0.2. We would win that game playing that same team and that same football over 90 times out of 100. It was a team that deserved to win the game, but didn’t. And I can live with that, it’s the nature of sport.

We’ve made changes like that many times and secured the points, enabling us to progress on all fronts in a season when everyone else has been unable to find consistency due to the schedule. It’s our competitive advantage. We have gained far more points from such changes, from keeping the squad fresh, focused and pulling in the same direction, than the 3 points we lost today.
You are so right, thanks for articulating a lot of my own reaction.
