Leeds (H) | Post Match Thread

27 attempts indicate we need not 1 but 2 strikers in the summer. I would try Torres in the middle as as of yet he’s not gone sailing passed full backs as we expected.
Anybody who watched Dortmund v Seville will have notice early on that Seville went for it and could and should have scored maybe 2 or 3 by halftime.
We need to cut out the laboured build ups and sideways and backward passes and truly go for it from the outset and sure we could put the tie to bed early.
Torres definitely should be more in the middle. He seems like a 'fox in the box' type of player.
But then, where to play Foden..?

Bayern took the risk today to play with their 2nd team, even though they were only 7 points above Leipzig. Guess what, they drew and the gap is now 5. But that is elite mentality. We are 14 points above and people are afraid of bottling? If anything we should lose some matches to make it more interesting and then go on to crush any hope when we feel necessary.
Bayern did not have the choice to play anything else because of a small squad and injuries. They even had to play players that had problems the day before. And - as Demichelis' U23 is fighting for staying in the 3rd league (what is very important for the club's talent development and we needed 8 years to get back from 4th into 3rd and there is 5 fourth leagues that fight for 3 spots going up) Bayern could not just take the best under 23s.

Bayern started with a Kimmich/Müller double pivot with Dantas as no. 10 who is great on the ball but has the physics of a U15 player. He actually did pretty fine - better than I have seen him in the matches he did for the U23.

Flick said after the match that he wanted to give Kimmich and Müller atleast a 20 minute rest at the end of the match - but as other players had problems he could not. Kimmich ran 12.8 km Saturday against Leipzig, probably not less atleast not less intensive against PSG and 13.1 km yesterday. We only have 6 days between both PSG matches - not 8. And play the teams ranked 2nd and 3rd in the league away directly before and after the PSG matches.

I thought the game was quite interesting. Cancelo was the Cancelo of the past; aimless, poor touch, poor decisions and just poor as a right back. Walker is way more consistent in that position.

Stones? Wow, what a game he had, bar the late finish from Dallas, where he wasn't helped out (Dias would have come across to help from his better positional sense). Superb, confident and truly a driving force.

Zinny, in the middle, was very good in his natural position. My only gripe was him playing it safe. When I wanted him to drive through, he checked and played it to someone else. Much better in that position than he is at left back.

Everyone else was below par with decision making as we all know.

What I do know is that we are terribly slow in the transition and have been for a while. It does make me think how Haaland would fit in to this system if the team are not more direct.

Interesting times ahead.
Cancelo was poor because he as playing as a defender I think he’s a midfielder, when he comes in he has the ability to make a pass but defensively he’s all over the place the first goal his body position was terrible very much like Mendy

“If we lose on Wednesday how is it related to yesterday?” Come again????

We lost yesterday because the squad players did not step up in the absence of our match winners. The gamble has been taken to ensure progression on Wednesday. If we don’t beat Dortmund then the decision to rest key players has not worked. Throwing away points because we have a decent lead is not a good argument.

Rotating 7 players was the wrong decision based on the match result. Dysfunctional performance and poor squad players = no points.
Was Delap on the bench? I think he should’ve been he may well have grabbed something yesterday as Jesus was ineffective especially after that tackle.

BBC saying an inspired defensive display by Leeds but it was anything but conceding 29 shots. Any of team with those stats would put 4-5 past them.

We lost because we have the same failings we have had for years, we cannot put chances away with poor decision making in the final third. Our strikers can only score if they are literally on the goal line to tap in and i have never seen a team so wasteful in front of goal as us. We have the ball most of the game and make so many chances we often take a few and win but we have dropped points when we are in total control but miss all our chances.

Do we practice finishing in training? Our weakness is finishing shows with our penalties, you are never confident of us scoring one. I was watching the EFL highlights last night and some of the finishing was fantastic, how can our team of international players be so awful at shooting.

And name another team that concedes as many goals as us from the only shots on target by the opposition. Again its nothing new, been happening for years, 1 shot 1 goal etc

At one point yesterday, i was having a deja va moment watching the game.
It reminded me off the famous QPR game.
They were down to 10, we had all the ball, and was attacking the end of our most important goal EVER.
At 1 point as was expecting Sergio to come deep to take the ball from (this time John Stones) and well we all know what happened back then.
I quickly snapped out of my daydream and realised there was no Sergio on the pitch only a static Raheem Sterling stood rigidly around the penalty spot, for some reason playing as stationery number 9
I was wondering why he never came deep to pick the ball up and try and make something happen.
Is that lack off confidence, laziness or just can't be arsed?
I know as a fan, games like these yesterday can only make you dream of being a player and being on the pitch, being the one who changes the outcome of the result and basking in the glory off it.

Anyway what i think im trying to say after yesterday performance is we could do with buying a top striker who can finish or another creative midfielder at the club, one who can unlock defences when Kev needs resting for games.
Yesterday we could of done with both
I had the same thoughts too.

Cancelo was poor because he as playing as a defender I think he’s a midfielder, when he comes in he has the ability to make a pass but defensively he’s all over the place the first goal his body position was terrible very much like Mendy

This, rather, reminds me of when many of our fans were calling for Kompany to play in midfield because he had a good game there. I always stated that Kompany didn't have the poise to work the midfield and defence was his natural position.

Ironically, Cancelo is actually a better defender than he is a ctr midfielder. Attacking mid/ winger is probably his best bet, but he's not better than anyone else in those dedicated positions.

He's a funny jack-of-all-trades and a master of none.

I think that's why his positioning is terrible 90% of the time.
