Leeds United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

In regards to the goal, I very much liked Cherki's pass and Ait-Nouri's run and cross. Ait-Nouri is proving to be an effective attacking full back.

I didn't think it was a great City performance. I expected Leeds to start hard and they did, but they also could easily have been 1-0, or 2-0 up before City got into it. However, all that matters is the 3 points.

I can watch Arsenal v Chelsea with hope now.
Sometimes you just have to win ugly, this game reminded me of Everton away 2014.
A hard fought win with players that were prepared to roll up their sleeves and go toe to toe, the mentality has shifted, we would have crumbled and conceded prior to xmas.
After that Everton win, Zab was interviewed and said we were always in control.
Yesterday, apart from the onslaught at the beginning and end, we controlled most of the game comfortably, this win could be the catalyst to the business end of the season.

I've gotten used to us knocking the ball around at the back, but some of that interplay at the beginning, on the six yard line by Bernie and Rodhri was breathtaking, skillful and almost arrogant. I started the game sitting on the settee and was on the floor after 15 mins.

There was some highlighting of it in the media specifically relating to our players in the days leading up to the match.

That BBC article was a racist dog-whistle against us - even though it may have been authored by a muslim. Is there no limit to what they'll do just for clicks?

The announcement on the scoreboard was completely unnecessary and had only 1 expected outcome: boos from the bigots, and they duly obliged.

As for the game, after getting away with a couple of early scares, we played well and controlled most of it. The goal was a thing of beauty. Rodri getting back near his peak, and several other very strong performances. A great 3 points which many doubted we would get, and switching heavy pressure onto the gunners now against a Chelsea team that needs the points just as much as they do.

I thought we dominated the game from about 25 min to 85 min, and deserved to win based on that very professional hour of away football.

Ok, yes, the opening 15 weren't pretty BUT of course Leeds at home, with a boozy crowd, against a team from Manchester, are going to hit a fast start. They poured everything into that first 20 and, to their credit, made a few half chances and two very good chances to score. Fine. Bit they didn't, we weathered it and you could argue when a team plays with that much energy you just have to see it out bcos you can't match it, unless you want to completely fuck yourself for the remainder of the 90.

I thought it was admirable, and risky, to not rise to their harem scarem approach and it paid dividends as we controlled the ball through to the end. OK yes, we could have killed the game to avoid another 10 mins of them pushing at the end but we're not entitled to score multiple goals, we need to graft through these away games.

The whole back line was great, though I think donnarumma could do with passing a bit more to feet instead of behind the defender. Cherki had a good 90, as did Rodri. Semenyo was quiet until the vital goal and I think Marmoush needs to improve his chaotic style with more directed outcome, it all feels a bit random right now. Well done City, just keep winning.

(I also thought the game management looked better today, than other 2nd halves of late, unsure why people are saying the opposite!)
